Question about Akai PTH5498 54" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

Captions I have a AKAI 42 inch Rear projection HD tv. I turned it off the other day and when I turned it back on, the captions for hearing impaired was there. I tried to go to the caption button and shut it off. But thats not working. It won't even let me change anything if I am in the HD channels. And we have lost our manual. And if you go to the lower channels and hit the caption button it says that its off. Can someone please help? Its really annoying to have those words go across all day long.

Re: captions

The microprocessor might have a glitch in it. Sometimes a surge or glitch in the elctric can scramble the TV's brain. First try and unplug the TV set OVERNIGHT, not just a minute or so. If this does not work, point the remote at a digital camera, or a camcorder. While looking at the viewfinder or display, push the closed caption buttonon the remote and see if you see the blue light on the end of the remote as you point the remote towards the camera. If you do not, the remote is bad. If you do, the TV set will need to be serviced. Good Luck

My 42" rear projection tv wil not turn on worked fine yesterday came home today tried to turn it on and you can hear it click inside and then the red light under "timer" just blinks i was wondering what...

I was handed the same model the other day.You're Lucky it clicks. The one I have is completely dead. I will give you an idea to try. Unplug your TV set......for a few days. Find someone who has acess to a variac transformer....And see if your tv will come on at about 70 volts...Somewhere less than 90 volts. If it will powerup, you will need the powerline regulator replaced. Part# STR X6459. I will purchase one for the tv I have and see if this will correct my problem.

Toshiba 62hx94 cant shut off closed caption have comcast cable How do I turn off closed caption on my TV. It suddenly turned on.

if the tv is not hd then the control is on your tv.
However if the comcast box is an hd box do the following;
Press cable, then power and then with 2 seconds press the red menu button to get the hidden hd user setup menu. You may have to hit the menu button multiple times to get the menu to stay up on the tv.
Next go down to closed captions which is probably enabled, and hit the left or right arrow key to change it to disabled.
Then press the power button twice to turn the box off and back on.

Sounds like a power supply issue. Does the power indicator light up? Can you hear a click when the power button is pressed?

No Picture

Hear say has it that Toshiba who made alot of the internal parts for this model can offer more help than Akai.
As for the other problems... first Id try leaving the TV unplugged for a day or so. This is a great TV, picked mine up for 400 from my boss who baught it a few years back for 1400 from Sams Club. If I hear a solution I'll be sure to come back here and post it.
