Question about Makita 18V LXT Circular Saw

Problem finding blade choices for Makita circular saw

I got a Makita 18v LXT cordless saw for my husband. It comes with one 16T blade (5-3/8 with 5/8 arbor). He needs another blade with more teeth for cutting plywood etc. But Makita doesn't sell any other blades for it on their web site. When I use a search engine to look for blades I get sites with hundreds of blades to wade through. Most have the wrong size arbor. Can anyone recommend a specific blade, that has more teeth for wood cutting, than the factory installed blade?

Rowdy I can't believe that Makita manufactures a saw that only takes one blade. Wouldn't have gotten it if I had known. Will check into the saw repair shop...thanks.

Thanks so much for the effort and time it took to find this out for me. I bought it on Amazon. The saw was exactly as depicted but who could have guessed no blades would be available? We got batteries and charger then from another dealer. I guess we'll keep the saw for limited apps. But I won't recommend it to anyone else!

I am not having any more luck than you but let call a friend who owns a service center and see if he can come up with something for you. I hope to have info on 21 or 22 Jan.

OK done some more checking and I believe you are out of luck, but before giving up hope do you have a saw sharpening business in your area?? My friend says that he has sent blades to one in my area and had the center hole bored out to the appropriate arbor hole and the blades run true and from what he tells me it is relatively cheap, so check first and see and then you can buy a blade in the diameter you want and have it bored out. Sorrry I couldn't come up with anything else, I check about 6 diffferent mfrs and they all have the same.

Last comment on this, called Makita Tech service today and was disassponted with their response to your problem. When did you buy this tool is recently I would try and take back to dealer and explain situation to them and see if you can exchange it for a more common blade size, most tool mfrs that I have worked for and know will do this and chalk it up to customer satisfaction. Sorry I couldn't help further and good luck. Makita is a good tool this is just an odd one

Saw stopped working. changed brushes. still not working.just dead.blade turns ok.not even a click

These are notorious for burning out armatures.
The replacement process is pretty involved, I would not attempt unless you are comfortable.
Remove the brushes
Remove the 3 Screws hold the motor assy to the saw
Remove the screws holding the motor housing together.
Separate the housing and you should be able to see right away if the armature is burnt (many times the windings actually blow apart)

Often when the armature burns out it also melts the brush holder assy - I would recommend replacing it as well.
If the armature appears fine then I would lean toward the switch. Makita BSS611 18V LXT Lithium Ion 6 1 2 Circular Saw Parts

Saw stopped working, changed brushes, still will not turn

These are notorious for burning out the armatures. If you are comfortable opening the tool up you can tell very quickly - I have sent a link with the breakdown showing how the tool goes together.
Usually visual inspection is all that is necessary - if the armature is the culprit you will see it is burnt or even blown apart.
If the armature is the problem, most of the time it also damages the brush holder assy & it should be replaced as well.
If the armature is in good shape then your problem is the switch, but my experience would have you check the armature first. Makita BSS611 18V LXT Lithium Ion 6 1 2 Circular Saw Parts

Bjv180 blade snapped how do i remove it?

Hi
I don't have the actual answer, but this may help you!
http://www.makita.nl/images/files/onderdelen/nl/BJV180-TE.pdf

Just to state the obvious, you have slid the plastic piece to undo the blade holder?
See page 6 of the manual here
http://wiki.makespace.org/images/b/b1/BJV180_manual.pdf
Hope this may help.
If all else fails I would put some oil into the blade holder and try wiggling the holder. Failing that a bit of wire and some fine pliers. Failing that a good blast of air from the aircompressor to try and blast it out.
Good luck

How come my lithium 18v battery (194205-3) wont fit on my new Makita 6 1/2 circular saw?

I sell & repair the Makita line of tools and the BL1830 (194205-3) battery is designed to fit on Makita's entire line of 18-volt tools. You didn't give the model number of your saw so my best suggestion is to make sure the saw is an 18-volt tool then make sure the tool's and battery's mating surfaces are OK. Try the battery in other tools & try other batteries on the saw. If this doesn't help please respond with the saw's model number or what you found out doing what I've suggested.

I cannot loosen the bolt that holds the blade on my 7 1/4 Makita circular saw. How do I make the blade stop spinning to loosen it?

they make a blade holder now but usually if you hold the blade against a wood block real tight you can loosen the bold / screw . most warn against over tightening them
