How to recove Seagate external hard drive data?

Probably, the new operating system cannot recognize your Seagate external hard drive. You can connect the Seagate external hard drive to another computer to copy data to another device. If the problem still exists, you might need to perform data recovery. You can free download the data recovery software: http://www.icare-recovery.com/seagate-recovery/seagate-external-cannot-be-recognized.html

I was copying files to my seagate freeagent drive. i noticed it had "read-only" for all files in that folder. i.e. everything. so i unchecked read only file types and all of my files i had backed...

My analysis is that your drive might encountered a virus on it. Normally, the file types that were disappeared are the files that was severely infected to it. I suggest to back up your files by transferring the files from your external drive to another drive (could be a CPU internal hard drive or another external hard drive) so that it will not damage the other files. You might as well restart the pc after doing it so..

I am trying to extract my backed up files from my Seagate FreeAgent go....but not sure how to..I don't see a restore option under backup on the Seagate Manager as the instructions say.

The only time I have seen this error, no backup was ever performed (or the program lost the information regarding existing backups). Try looking at the backup log (Seagate Manager > View Backup Log) to see what backups should exist.

I hope this gives you a starting place and wish that I could be more help.

Seagate freeagent go status icon stays red what is the problem?

When a backup or sync has failed, the red icon continues to display until the next successful backup or sync. You can view the log file to determine why the backup failed.

How do I transfer data from my hard drive to added external drive

you can this many different ways. The most straightforward is to go to the drive and select "folder and file options" in the view menu and selct "show hidden files", that way when you copy and paste you will get every single file. The other way is to use a program such as Acronis Tru Image and use the clone option. I am assuming that you want an image of your C:\ drive.

Comp won't assign drive letter to recently added Seagate ST310211

Its possible the drive doesnt have a partition on it. Right-Click on "My Computer" and go to "Manage". Then go into Disc Management and the drive should show up.

If you see the drive, you can create a partition, and assign a drive letter :)
