Problem for Bushnell Rangefinders

Error message 'VPL' coming up on LCD on my ...

Hi, when I attempt to rangefind an object, it'll give me a reading [in yards] for a second or so, then I get 'VPL' or maybe 'UPL' on the LCD. This stays there until the unit switches off after a minute or so of inactivity.next time I go touse it, it'll do the same thing all over again. i've tried inserting a new battery with no change.
