-   i have an iphone in japan - where if you want to send a text to someone using a different carrier, you have to send an email. so, whenever someone texts me it arrives as an email and there is no notification... in japan its expensive to call, but texting and data is included in the plans... so we just text so not having this notification feature is really making me regret buying this phone.
apple really needs to give the user the option to configure which actions receive a audio alert.-   torikun

-   alert options are poor. Many physicians I work with have gone back to blackberry because of problems concerning notifications/lack thereof-   Guest

-   I'd love to have an iphone but I decided not to purchase one because it doesn't have an audible alert for new voice mails! With so many fun features Apple has missed the idea that this is still a phone. I'm hoping someone comes up with a fix soon.

-   I love the iphone but it is upsetting and annoying to have to check all day long whether I have voice messages because the alert only sounds once and it is low at best. I've missed many many calls and appointments because of this problem. I can't believe Apple is so smart and yet didn't address this very important, practical issue.

Sure you can. Go to the sound menu of the settings menu and set it t vibrate. There's an option to set it to vibrate on sound and quite mode. You can choose whether the phone will make noise for email, sms or a call. Isn't the iphone fantastic?!
