.****MAKE SURE THE POWER IT OFF AND UNPLUGGED FROM THE WALL FIRST *******

This is a scanner problem - didn't leave or come back to home, scan overload or cable off or drive problem. Try to unlock the scanner from it position ( Remove platen glass and move the scanner unit from it position)

How do i reset a sharp al-1553 photocopy

Try unplugging it for 20 minutes. If that doesn't work, go online type "sharp al1553 user manual" and it will show sites to get manual. Use the trouble shooting section.

We have a sharp AL 1553. It is flashing 1-L. I cannot find out what this fault means or how to fix it.

L1 or L1-00 indicates Scanner movement failure. The scanner is the part under the glass that lights up and moves back and forth. So if you lift up the feeder so you can see the glass, turn the machine off for a few seconds then back on. Watch the movement of the scanner. It should move right and inch or two then back to the left. If all goes well the copier should come to ready. Lay a piece of paper on the glass and press the print button to watch the scanner movement. If it binds up or does not scan correctly there are 2 possibilities.
1) your scanner lock is engaged and is preventing the scanner from moving. Check the clear plastic dial located under the far left upper side of the copier, near where the paper exits the machine. Make sure it is in the unlocked position.
2) Your scanner rail is dirty and dry. This rail can be seen under the glass towards the back of the copier. The scanner rides on this rail. It is very common for these to get dirty and for the grease to dry up causing the scanner to freeze up on the rail. The glass must be removed and the rail cleaned and lubricated.
Just power off then on the copier to reset.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

My Sharpe Al-1553 keeps flashing L and won't work

This is a fatal error with the scanner. It is most likely to be a power supply or positioning error with the scanner not having returned to the home position or the positining sensor. You will need a service engineer call to rectify this.
