I have an older craftsman snow blower 10 hp. It starts ok with full choke, runs ok half choke, backfires with no choke-run position.

It's too lean; not enough fuel mixed with the air. Look for the main mixture screw--it should be a large screw with a spring under it on the carburetor. Run the engine until it's warm.

With the engine running, turn the screw outward (lefty-loosey) about 1/8 turn slowly and see if it improves. Slowly turn the screw back and forth until it runs best with the choke completely off. Then set it 1/8 turn richer (turn screw outward 1/8 turn) than the best position.

Reason for doing this: Conditions change, even the barometric pressure. Small engines run okay if they are a little rich but not if they are a little lean.

Won stay running

Needs a carb adjustment, cleaning, or possible rebuilt. Try adding a little seafoam and running at half choke for about 5 mins or longer this may clean it up nicely. also check the spark plug.

My br420c blower runs fine for about 20 seconds and then shuts off like the switch has been turned off

possibility 1) It sounds like it is sucking air with the gasoline. 2) don't rush the choke, leave it running on high with 1/2 choke. When you go to move the choke to off, move it very very slowly while the governor can catch up and raise the revs. Or slow the revs down before turning the choke off.

My blower cranks fine. But when the choke is moved to the off position, the blower slowly goes dead. Like it is straving for fuel.

How long are you leaving the choke on? Try leaving it on a little longer and then move it to the half choke, then turn the choke off. If the extra time doesn't help, the carb needs to be adjusted. The adjustment takes a special tool that only poulan service dealers have. You can locate a dealer on the poulan website. If this is a newer unit (less than a year from date of purchase with receipt), the adjustment is covered under warranty.

Blower will only run on full choke ryobi ry08578

They aren't designed to run with full choke on, the choke is for starting cold engines only, many times you can choke them pull the cord a few times and then turn the choke off or turn it down to start it. Then slowly reduce the choke until it runs fine on its own.

I don't know how to start the blower (gas powered) and I don't have the owner's manual...any help is appreciated. There's the choke, the primer, and the blow strength gauge

I would push the primer in about 3 times, then pull the choke out, then try and start it. It probably won't start, but it might turn over. Then push the choke in and try starting it again. It should start within the next 2 pulls.

Craftsman blower stalls when choke is disengaged

You need to play with the timing adjustment, either on the spark plug, or the gap between the contact and the magneto.
That'll do it ;)
