Question about Troy Bilt 17 Inch 29 Cc Gas Powered Clutched Curve Shaft Trimmer #41ADT52C966
I have a TB20cs trimmer and the cord broke. My question is, how can you keep the motor from turning over while taking the "star" screw out of the main housing unit?
May be air filter but sounds more like your muffler is stopped up. First take the muffler off and see if it runs better without it. If so, burn the carbon out of the muffler and clean the muffler port on the engine. If not, then remove the four screw at the very end and disassemble. The ait filter is in that area. The carburator has a sereis of one way check valves that get cloged very easily.
If you remove the carburator and clean it out with a simple cleaning solution you should be able to clean it up.Do not use compressed air.

You will need to look at page 9 of the manual here. The string head installs part by part on the end of the driveshaft. If you are having trouble with the driveshaft turning while attempting to put the head on, post back. You shouldn't though if the end of the shaft's threads are in good shape. If you need to, spray some WD-40 on it prior to installation. Here is the manual.
