I have had the same problem in the past. The problem with mine was the controller wires were loose from being wrapped tightly around the controller while not in use. Try pugging in a new controller or one you know does not have issues. Good luck.

The ring of lights around the power button of the Xbox 360 system should spin and blink once. One of the lights should remain lit up, indicating the port number that the headset is using. If you do not see any lights on the system, you may have a faulty wireless headset.6 Press the "Guide" button on your wireless controller to reconnect the controller to the Xbox 360 system. If you are using a wired controller, you can plug it back into the system.7 Press the "Connect" button on the top of your wireless controller to sync the controller with your system. You should see the connection light around the "Guide" button on the controller light up, indicating which port you are connected to. You should also see a corresponding port light in the ring around the power button of your Xbox 360 system 8 Press the "Connect" button on the wireless headset until the port light on the headset matches the light on the controller and Xbox 360 system. For example, if you are the first player, the light for port number one should be lit up on the Xbox system, the controller and the headset. When all lights correspond, your headset should be properly connected.

How to Configure an Xbox Controller"> configure-xbox-controller-800x800.jpg Configure you Xbox controller.

The Xbox 360 utilizes two types of controllers: wired and wireless. Like most operations on a video game console, configuring a controller requires little effort. You can either plug the controller into a port on the Xbox 360, or sync a wireless controller using the console's built-in controls.
Difficulty:Easy Instructions

  1. Wired
    • 1 Connect the controller's cable to the in-line release cord. This cord prevents you from accidentally pulling the Xbox 360 along with your controller during game play.
    • 2 Insert the in-line release cord's USB plug into the USB port on the front of the console.
    • 3 Turn on the console to activate the controller automatically.
    • 1 Insert batteries in your wireless controller, if necessary.
    • 2 Hold down the "Guide" button on the controller.
    • 3 Push the Xbox 360's "Connect" button, located on the front of the console.
    • 4 Push the controller's "Connect" button to sync it with the Xbox 360.

Controller will not connect to game

To connect a controller to Xbox 360 console:
Wired Controller:
1) Simply plug in the controller into one of the three USB ports avaiable on the system. Two of which are on the front of the console( next to the power button, there is a small door, it is marked by two dots on top, open it and you will find the two USB ports, the third USB port is on the back of the system)
Wireless Controller:
1)Press and hold the Xbox guide button until the controller turns on.
2) Make sure that the console is on, then press and release the connect button on the console( the button next to the memory card slots)
3) Press and release the connect button on the Xbox wireless controller, if connected the ring of lights on the controller will stop blinking, one of which will now be constantly lit, The same will occur on the ring of lights on the console itself

Xbox Console Freezes

I know what your problem is. mine does the same thing but not as severly. Its your controller not your xbox. If you strech out the cord the wire inside snaps and looses connectivity. I suggest buying a new controller but wireless.

Xbox 360 Pauses during gameplay

Your xbox was probably heavily overheated before you purchased it, I repair xboxs and have seen this that after about 6 months of getting a repaired Xbox another error will come up. The temperature sensor in the CPU is probably broken, that is why your fan runs hard. your hard drive is fine. as far as the xbox goes.... probably toast.
