Hi there
Your Netgear router will not connect to BT Infinity directly as the built-in modem is ADSL/ADSL2+ and Fibre requires a VDSL modem as in the HomeHub5 or the BT Openreach modem. Either of these can be used with your Netgear as a subsidiary router/access point. You may now be able to get a router with a VDSL modem built in but 3 years ago it was really only available from BT and BT did not support other makes.
Hope this clarifies matters though perhaps not too helpful
its not to hard if you have a physical ethernet cord from point A to point B
Modem/Router ---ethernet cable--> 2nd router with dhcp off
as a bonus if you use the EXACT same SSID and password your wireless device will rome with no downtime switching networks
(oh.. very important to make certain they don't have the same IP. if main 1 is 192.168.1.1 then set the second to 192.168.1.2)
ta-da twice the network but all your devices think its all one
The router should get the IP address on it's own when connected to a DSL or cable modem. If it's needing an IP address then it should be from the modem. The router can have an issue if the modem and router use the same IP range. Try changing router to 192.168.2.1. This can stop the possible conflict for why it's not getting info on it's own.
