I found this solution on a forum and I think it can help you. There are two types of PIXMA printers listed. The listing is actually longer than this but I can't copy and paste it all here. The website is http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/forums/printer/52461.

You'll always find the wast ink absorber under the printer head after printer head prints and rest, there is a rubber type clip which cleans the head and the ink drips down on the cushion absorber. Disassemble the printer and remove the cushion than dip in the bucket of water until ink dissolves out of the cushion and wash under running tap until clean then dry and finish, put back the item and assemble the printer.

Canon BJC- 1000 LPT 1 printer. STATUS: the used ink tank is full. printer not performing.

HI,

Your printer has a built-in waste ink tank for the ink used during print head cleaning. As time goes by, the waste ink tank gradually fills. When the waste ink tank is nearly full, you should receive a "Waste ink warning" error when you print. Press the RESUME button on the printer to cancel the error so you can continue printing. Before the waste ink tank becomes completely full, have the waste ink tank replaced.

Received message ''the waste ink absorber is full'' What can I do?

You will have to replace the waste ink pads. There should be two of them on the right under the print head in rubber containers. It could be a messy job though. I think the pads on that printer has a metallic strip for detecting full condition. So you can't reuse the pads even if you clean them up.

Waste ink near full

That's the early warning for nearly full, in a little while it will change to waste tank full and will stop printing. You need to take it to a shop for new absorbers, and then have the counter reset.
