SOURCE: We have a Richmond 50

Electric water heater is fully repairable unless it is rusted out.
All 2-element tanks are 240Volts.

If you have NO hot water, then suspects are 240Volt circuit supplying only 120V, reset button is tripped out on upper thermostat, bad upper thermostat, bad upper element.
If elements were not completely covered with water when power was turned on, then elements will instantly burn out.
When filling water heater tanks, open bathtub spout. Wait for water to come out full stream. Then open TP valve on water heater for a moment to remove last of air. Then turn on electricity.

What is the part # for a Rheem 308 71 model heating element needed?

Any generic element will work.
Match wattage with current element.

Rheem wants folks to buy parts from them... so Rheem tries to convince people that Rheem electric water heaters require special parts.
This is not true... ordinary generic parts will function fine on Rheem.

How long will it take Rheem solar hot water to heat up

read manual:
http://www.rheem.com.au/Assets/1294/1/Rheemsolarlolineelectric511series.pdf
Usually electric element heats about 20 gallons per hour.
It appears the element is controlled by thermostat and automatically kicks ON when tank falls below thermostat set point..
This will be handy since element will continually heat the circulating water when outside temperatures turn cool... of course it will also be wasteful if thermostat is set high.

My water is not heating in my Rheem 40 gallon electric. I pushed the reset button, but when I turn off the breaker and then on again, I do not hear the elements heating up.

Electric water heater can be repaired by homeowner
If I understand correctly, water heater is producing no hot water.
Reset button clicks in, but still no heat.

Three initial things can be causing this:
1) No power to water heater. Test across top two screws on upper thermostat for 240V. Red and black wire are attached to these screws. Screws are marked 1 and 3. Upper thermostat is same that has reset button. If power tests 120 across screws, then breaker may be off on one leg. If no power, then start testing at breaker.

2) Upper thermostat is bad. Replace thermostat with generic upper thermostat available at hardware store.
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-replace-thermostat-on-electric-water-heater.html

3) Upper element is bad. Test and replace element using Rheem 4500 watt element available at hardware store. Image shown below. Look at label on side of tank for element wattage. Rheem puts 4500 watt elements into all their 240V electric water heaters.

If upper element is burned out the tank will not heat any water.

Upper thermostats are generic and interchangeable:

Water is not hot, doesn't last long. Thermostats turn elements on when turned up. Elements show 230 when on.

Lower element can be burned out and still read 230V across screws

1) We know thermostats are working because elements test 230V.
2) We know upper element is working because tank has some hot water.
If upper element is burned out, tank will have no hot water.

3) Here's how to test lower element:

4)Here's how to replace element
Rheem element is 4500Watt bolt-in type
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-clean-sediment-out-of-electric-water-heater.html

5) Rheem manual says: Heaters furnished with standard 240 volt AC, single phase non-simultaneous wiring, and 4500 watt upper and lower heating elements.

New Rheem electric 50 gallon not heating

Check the elements, if you have access to a meter to check them. If they are getting power to elements and you have no hot water.
The elements are not working correctly. I had some elements check out ok till the thermostat's turned on and the elements didn't heat.
Sounds like the elements are bad.

Not heating water hot enough or as much water.

You probably have a bad heating element. Probably the upper element.
