Hi there, RikSound1. The problem is the C657 capacitor, located on the DSP PCB. It's a 0.047 farad capacitor, 5.5V. You can either replace it yourself, or just hand the info out at your local repair centre ! It will fix the problem for sure, i have fixed that problem already. Thanks, cheebster.

If this is an older type receiver, yes there is a special capacitor inside to control the memory. Where it is at is the trouble. I do not remember. You will need to get a service manual to locate it. Good Luck

How do I reset my harman/kardon avr 630 receiver ?

See link for users manual. Instructions for Processor Reset are on page 50.

"Processor Reset
In the rare case where the unit's operation or the displays
seem abnormal, the cause may involve the erratic
operation of the system's memory or microprocessor.
To correct this problem, first unplug the unit from the
AC wall outlet and wait at least three minutes. After the
pause, reconnect the AC power cord and check the
unit's operation. If the system still malfunctions, a
system reset may clear the problem.
To clear the AVR 630's entire system memory including
tuner presets, output level settings, delay times and
speaker configuration data, first put the unit in Standby
by pressing the Standby/On Switch1. Next, press
and hold the Surround Mode Group Selector2
and the Tuning Mode Selector8buttons for three
seconds.
The unit will turn on automatically and display the
RESET message in the Upper Display Line #.
NOTE: Resetting the processor will erase any configuration
settings you have made for speakers, output
levels, surround modes, digital input assignments as
well as the tuner presets. After a reset the unit will be
returned to the factory presets, and all settings for
these items must be reentered.
If the system is still operating incorrectly, there may
have been an electronic discharge or severe AC line
interference that has corrupted the memory or
microprocessor.
If these steps do not solve the problem, consult an
authorized Harman Kardon service center."

Hi, I am getting no sound when I connect speakers to the receiver... But the receiver comes on and goes thru all of the menus...

speakers may not be good. volume might not be up high enough. settings may not be right on reciever. i advise you check the speakers first by plugging them into a different stereo. if they don't work, inspect them to make sure they're not blown (cracks in the cone of the speaker). if they do, hook 'em back up and check to make sure there's no headphones plugged in or any settings on the reciever that say speakers or external speakers or anything like that are powered off. hope this helps.

Harman Kardon AVR 500: randomly accelerates volume levels.

The problem is with the actual eltromechanical element on the volume control, my avr 300 does this as well and I'll let you know the secret to avoiding it. There are small indents on the volume control as you turn it, if you leave it half way between indents, it will periodically start reading volume changes, if you're lucky it will go down, if you're unlucky by the time you've noticed it act up your speakers are blown. When you change the volume, make sure the control rests in an indent and the problem will never crop up again. A simple solution if you're the only one that uses the receiver.

I don't know why you'd set the Peavey to 2 ohm to drive 8 ohm speakers??? My other thought is... I wonder if the phase is correct. try reversing one of the speaker wires Left or right side.
