Question about HP Pavillion DV6985SE Notebook
Hey I have the above notebook and it won't switch on. I left it off for a couple of weeks cause I was clearing my room out and with the holidays and everything. And today I went to switch it on and there was no response. I tried plugging it to an ac source and the power indicator on the side turned on. But, when I pressed the power button, the volume lights goes on, the HP logo and fans go on but just for a about a second and then it goes off. Any ideas what's going on? I tried removing the battery and leaving it with the ac adapter only.
If you left it in a dusty place try clearing the dust from the fan outlet to see if that helps

For this kind of issue, please follow up the following steps to check:
1.confirm the battery and hp pavilion dv6 ac adapter connect the laptop normally.Maybe the bad connect lead to this problem. If there are no lights when you turn on laptop, one of possible reason is that your adapter is malfunction.
2.the second possible cause is laptop dc jack failure. If the dc jack is broken or loose, you are required to replace it or repair it.
3.Another possible reason is that there is something wrong with laptop motherboard. For this situation, it includs two kinds of possibility,a failure in an electronic circuit and BGA malfunction.

The middle blue led is the charging indicator, sounds like you have (at least) a bad battery, remove it, plug in AC and try again, if no good, remove the HD and repeat, if no good, remove/replace the ram and repeat, if still no good, your mainboard is cooked.

First you need to determine how many blinks you are getting when you try to power on the laptop.
Check the blinking codes below and reason behind that for HP Compaq laptops
Blinking battery power LED Battery Insufficient charge on the battery
Blink: 1 - Caps Lock/Num Lock - CPU CPU not functional
Blink: 2 - Caps Lock/Num Lock - BIOS BIOS corruption failure
Blink: 3 - Caps Lock/Num Lock - Memory Module error not functional
Blink: 4 - Caps Lock/Num Lock - Graphics Graphics controller not functional
Blink: 5 - Caps Lock/Num Lock - System board General system board failure
Blink: 6 - Caps Lock/Num Lock - BIOS BIOS authentication failure
Plz get back so I can suggest you the steps to resolve the issue.

Test the adapter with another laptop in other to confirm if truly the adapter is still good. If the adapter works, then it means your laptop is having a power problem.
This has nothing to do with the battery because whether or not the battery is good or bad, that doesn't say the laptop shouldn't work with the adapter.
So the problem as to be either from the laptop's power board or from the AC adapter.
