Stretching springs in the battery compartment to fix battery contact problems,

cleaning the battery terminals.

..and if all the checking and correcting this still have the problem, could be a fault on the large electrolytic capacitor to the main board.

hope this initial info helps.

There's something wrong with my TI-83. When I'm typing up an equation it will randomly shut off. And when it's on it will have shown that the RAM was cleared. Now it sometimes takes like 5 presses of the...

Have you tried changing the batteries? I'd try that first thing. From your description, the problem sounds like you have low batteries. The RAM shouldn't clear itself when you turn the calculator on unless you tried to turn it on when the calculator didn't have any juice. The TI-83 has four AAA batteries and one CR1616 battery it uses for memory backup. The CR1616 isn't enough to power the calculator, just enough to keep your calculator from losing its RAM contents while the primary batteries are out. If you try to power the calculator on without primary batteries, the backup fails. However, the TI-8x line is usually pretty good about warning you when the batteries are low by displaying a big warning message when you turn it on about the batteries being low and a recommended change of batteries. It might not, though, so you really can't be sure until you try a fresh set of batteries. Good luck!

If i were you since it goes through batteries so fast i would either buy some of the electronic batteries that are supposed to have super long battery lives but cost more or i would buy rechargeable batteries so that i wouldn't have to go out to the store and keep buying new batteries.

Take out one battery. While holding the "On" button, put the battery back in. I can honestly not explain what happened, but it has happened to me multiple times as well. You might have to do this more than once, but within a few attempts, it should start working again. Tell me how it works out, and hope this helps!

TI-84 Plus calculator keeps draining a set of batteries with each use. Can this be fixed?

Either you are putting in partially discharged batteries (test the new batteries with a battery tested NOT a voltmeter), or there is a partial short in the ca;culator (low impedance). If he batteries test good before insertion and they drain very quickly upon use, then the calculator is defective (it has some sort of low impedance in the circuitry. In this case, complain to Texas Instruments and have them give you a new calculator.

Batteries drains quickly

I had something similar, it kept saying "battery low" after putting in new batteries. Try the Clear method; Take out one battery, hold the Clear button, while holding it insert the battery again and press on, and release. Now press clear again, turn it off and turn it back on again. If that doesn't help... well it must be something else... sorry :S

Look for the reset button, then remove the batteries - this should fix it.
