SOURCE: Fowler 12" dial caliper measures 0.025 when shut, how do I zero
There should be a small thumb screw near the dial that you loosen to turn the dial to zero it, then re-tighten the thumb screw.

SOURCE: How do I shut off
Not sure if it's the same on your model, but on a Ultra-Cal III you hold the on/off/set button. You press it once for on, and hold it for a few seconds to turn off. Here is a link to a manual for the Ultra-Cal III. Some have optional auto off.
