SOURCE: spacebar will not work

You'll need to replace the keyboard. You can probably find one on ebay for under $20 or so.

SOURCE: spacebar not responding on Toshiba laptop Satellite

Since the spacebar is the most used key on the keyboard, it is likely a hardware failure of the spacebar itself. Replacement keyboards can be found on EBay and normally run about $20

Hook a external keyboard, if okay! problem with the laptop keyboard. Try a system restore and bring the computer back to a earlier time before this happened, just might work. The keyboard can be disabled from the bios setting I don't see how it can be done any other way.

The spacebar on my laptop doesn't always leave spaces between words, what is wrong with it?

Inside the key, there is a metal bar the makes the spacebar key depress from anywhere you press it. Either this bar as unclipped from its hinges or they have broken.

(Remington Streamliner) the space bar automatically tabs instead of moving one space forward. How do I fix this?

This can mean that the spacebar is not being tapped hard enough, the spacebar is sticky, the escapement is sticky, or the spacebar linkage needs adjusted. If the letters do not cause this, then the escapement being sticky is less of a concern. Sometimes the touch on the spacebar is right on the point where the escapement mechanism just barely escapes and doesn't lock in. First try tapping the spacebar more firmly to see if this helps.

My dog knocked over my Compaq keyboard. Now the divided spacebar is opposite what it should be. Instead of spacing on the right spacebar I have to hit the left side. How do I fix this?

Pull the space bar off by using your fingers. Underneath, you'll find a metal rod. Take note on which way it is facing, and how it fits. Make sure nothing in broken under the space bar, then put the space bar back on making sure it hooks in correctly.

How do I put my spacebar back on?

Firstly ensure you have all the parts - there may be one or two sets of small plastic hinged brackets. These go on first to the laptop - then the key should snap in.

Be careful to check the brackets are not broken or worn first!

Can't/use/my/spacebar/ don/'t/have/recovery/cds/for/satellite/135/using/vista

Hi,
I'm afraid that your recovery CD's won't help you get the space bar working.
There could well be dust, biscuit crumbs, hairs etc that's preventing the spacebar from working, turn the laptop off but don't close the lid, stand the laptop on it's side and get yourself a clean, dry paintbrush.
Start to brush the keys and gently tap the keyboard with the other end of the brush to knock out any foreign objects that could be trapped under the spacebar.
Once your happy it's clean turn the laptop on and see if the spacebar works.
If you still have the same symptoms then the keyboard will have to be replaced.
You can use the on-screen keyboard to substitute for the spacebar for the time being.

Good luck.

Which 3 buttons are directly left of the spacebar?

Hello,

Most Compaqs have the following to the left of the space bar:

Ctrl - Fn - Win Symbol - Alt

However some have this layout:

Ctrl - Win Symbol - Alt - Fn

If you post the model # we could say for sure.

Thanks for using Fixya.
