What do you mean? Is the blade itself is not straight when you install it or the blade is not cutting straight?

I have stihl ms 170, which it takes about 12 pulls or more to start, obviously is a common problem thier with this model, some think caused by thier zama carb, which can't be adjusted, only has one screw...

Fixed jet carbs are always a problem due to tollerences within the engine, fuel types and carb wear, which you cannot make a small ajustment to the carb to compensate for, you need to check the cylinder and piston are in good condition and has ample compression, if ok you may need to change the carb.

How do you adjust the replacement blades in a Makita planer if you don't have to original gauge?

The blades, at thier highest point in rotation, need to be exactly the same height as the larger back plate. Any straight edge laid on the back plate and extending over the blades will let you know if they are set properly. The straight edge should not contact the blades when they are turned (by hand) and there should be as close to no gap between the straight edge and blades as you can get.

Can anyone help please ive just got hold of a black and decker DN339 band saw and want to cut max 50mm soft wood with the grain using the fence to slide against, only the blade is tilting towards the fence...

That is usually an indication that the blade is blunt and one side has lost its edge more than the other. The blade will wander towards the sharper side. You will have to replace the blade. For soft wood you need about 4-6 tpi. and a cutting speed of about 1000 - 1500 ft/min.

Ryobi bc30 idle and run probloms; plastic ends on ajustment screws on carb keep you from ajusting carb. how can you ajust. can start with chock but will not run with chock off.

mmarote, this is what I did to solve that problem....remove carb...take a hacksaw or dremel tool and cut or grind slots straight across the centers of both screws deep enough to get a thin bladed screwdriver in the slots....turn to adjust....et voila....

Saw wont cut streight ,cannot control cutting along a line

Is there an ajustment for the tension on the blade? If the tension is too low on the blade or if the blade is no longer sharp it will cause it to twist and cut crooked.

Instead of the face of the pullies being perfectly straight,a slight crown , meaning high in the center, will help the blade track to the center better. Most of the big band saws have crowned faces on the pully faces where the blade acually touches. The other option is to look for wear on the ajustment system or shaft(s) bearings.I am persuming no vibration while running.
