Question about Panasonic TH-42PX60U Television

Tv took a hit, now no picture!

My TV fell over hitting the top edge of the plastic border on the arm of a love seat. The impact was not that bad as I caught it part of the way down. The glass screen was not hit and in good condition. Now the TV has no picture, just a flickering of green on the left side, and a slight buzzing sound. There is audio. What could have broken after such a hit, because I would like to repair it myself if possible?

I was able to obtain a copy of the Service Manual, and checked the led's on 2 of the many circuit boards. According to the manual, the boards are functioning properly. The buzzing sound was through out the entire backside of the TV, possibly indicating the plasma screen has been damaged. I also twisted the screen slightly by hand eliminating the buzzing sound, but also eliminated the flickering. I spoke with the local Panasonic repair shop, and they informed me that a panel would cost more than a new TV. At $575.00 for a new TV, they are correct.

Screens can be replaced but cost much more than any other component inside the tv. Adding on the labor cost to the parts list may be more than a new tv would be. Send whoever shot the tv the bill....lol

Tv hit by tennis ball and now there is sound but no picture. Can it be fixed?

If it hit the screen unit and the display panel is bad, it could show not not show a crack but be toast inside, the part would cost more than a new set.

It does not take much of a impact to cause damage to the display panel.

It would help to see a pic or video. The fact that hitting the top side clears up the picture leads me to believe that you may have a bad LCD panel tab. If this is the case, the only true fix is to replace the screen, BIG $$$

flext tab bond is the most likliest cause. They tend to lose their bonds and then usually hitting the top edge of the screen will lock it in. Flex tab issues will make part of the screen take on distortions and slow response of the pictures movements in the screen

VERTICAL LINES IN SCREEN

Your LCD panel (the screen you view) has electrical connections all along it's top edge. The lines appear when these electrical connections are broken. You can try carefully squeezing the top of edge were the lines are located. Sometimes this will cause them to momentarily disappear. Regardless, this defect is generally not repairable by any means other than panel replacement. Often the LCD panel will cost nearly as much as the TV. This defect can be caused by impact, but generally it is due to a poor electrical connection and not the fault of the owner.

This sounds like an impact injury to the screen itself. It is likely that something may have hit the screen or if the set is old, the part inside may be starting to go.

Hope this helps

TV fell over, took a hit on top, no picture

Sorry to hear this happened but you most likley you craked the panel. The only other thing I can reccomend is to remove the back cover and inspect for arch marks on the inside of the cover. If I`m not mistaken that is a metal cover, and i could be arching to one of the internal heatsinks.
