Right click on the item you want, and OPEN WITH> select MSWord
Click the box "always use this program when opening this filetype"
Click OK

Right click on the .doc file you are trying to open, click properties, in the properties window that pops up, you will see "Opens with: ", and a change button, click the change button, and then find and select word, then click ok

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Word says it can't open

I assume it was working earlier? If so, there could be several reasons - first try loading from the "start/programs" menu instead of a desktop icon - the latter may be corrupted
Before doing more BACK UP YOUR WORD FILES to a USB (or whatever) drive
Next go to to control panel, select Programs and features" find the MS Office line and select "repair" Be careful not to uninstall.
If all that fails, do you have the original disks? If so reinstall using the OEM disk
If still no good call Microsoft -they can be very helpful. If you have the user name and licence number they can issue a new licence key

If all else fails, download Open Office (free) and use that instead of MS Word. It will read and write to all the MS files

Linkid 104288 Problem Event Name: BlueScreen OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.1 Locale ID: 1033

Hi Vasava,
Before solving your problem.
Q.1. Is it only happening for this single document? Try to open other documents too. If you can open other word docs, you can eliminate the issue with Win Word application problem. The problem is in your document itself. If you can't open any other word docs, than this is the application problem.
Q.2 This is for Win Word application problem. Can you find "Microsoft Office Application Recovery" under "Start menu-->All Program-->Microsoft Office-->Microsoft Office Tools". Try recovering your application with this tool. It solve my problem with Ms Excel.
Q.3 Do you have Ms Office setup cd with you. This is if the above 2 fails. You will need to reinstall Ms Office.

My guess for you problem is, you have a defected document file.
Please try the above and let me know, if I can help further.

Hiiiiiiiii in my lptp somhow with mistake i uninstall the ms office2010 n now n screwed up coz i tried alot alot alot frm every link tried to download but i faild to do so,plz help me out i got loads of...

You will still have your .doc office files. Since the newer Office cannot read older Office files you should go to MS office support and download the "compatibility" program. This option should appear when you try and open an older file. Just click OK to install it.

It is possible to have more than one version of MS Office on the same PC. When installing you must change the install directory name to "Office03", or "Office07" instead of just "Office". Office will always try to replace an older version in the "Office" file location.

Another option is to download "Open Office" which is free and fully compatible with MS Office files.

I saved an .odt file from another computer and i can't open it in a 2003 microsoft word. what should i do to open the file?

Hi .odt files will not be opened by MS word as a default. Most likely MS Word does not have the latest service pack. For Windows 2003, download Office 2003 SP2 as a minimum (available from Microsoft)
Download, Install and reboot computer if required.
When PC starts, start up MS Word 2003 which will have SP2 installed.
Locate the ODT file and then double click it. As SP2 for Office 2003 is installed (or MS Word 2003) The file will now open. The formatting might be a little off, but for the most part, all the text will be there and you'll be able to edit and make changes as you see fit.

Decrypting ms word pro 2003 docs

Hello jassam_73..

MS word is a part of MS office software.
MS office softwarecontains MS word, Outlook,Excel,Powerpoint etc

Now, MS Office is a paid software, which means you need to pay for the whole software to use it.
However you can use openoffice software which is FREE alternative to MS office suite. Openoffice has it's own word, excel ,powerpoint files and it FREE TO USE....this openoffice software will help you decrypt the word files which you cant read right now..

http://download.openoffice.org/

Please click on the above link to download openoffice word software.

Jassam, you asked this question in a free forum and I provided you a free of charge reply.I think this is the best solution to your problem, so rate me accordingly please
GOOD LUCK ;-)

My ms word documents dont open when i doudle click

OK 5HEN,

If you can open the file from within Word (File, Open, ...) it sounds like you need to Set the Vista File Association:

1. Click the Start button.
2. Select Control Panel.
3. Select Programs.
4. Under Default Programs, select Make a file type always open in a specific program.
The Set Associations window will appear, allowing you to change what program a file type is associated with by selecting the file type and clicking the Change program button.
5. Since you are only looking to change a single file type (.DOC) right-click the ".doc" line - Microsoft Office Word - and select Properties. Under the General tab, click the Change button to select Microsoft Word program.

MS DOS Data File to Be Imported

If you have access and excel you probably have WORD.
When you go to open the .doc file select other or if the list shows word open with that if not "Browse" for word.exe to open the .doc file.

Or open word, select the icon in word for "open", or go to file, open, and select the .doc file to open.

Set default photo viewer

Dear Susan, generally MS doc pics are copy paste images or they're embedded in the document through screen shots. If you click the image it would find the default image viewer and open it in it. If you want to remove this feature you might like to right click the image in MS word and remove the hyperlink feature if its from URL. You might also like to save picture by right-clicking it and using option save as...

I recommend not to click images in a document because it would always search for a default program to open it.

If that was helpful please press fixya.
