Question about Honeywell Programmable Thermostat Heater

With new digital thermostat furnace runs every 10 min.

Digital thermostat drops .5 degrees and furnace will start. I set a digital therm and humidity gage next to thermostat to compare. Can I change the setting on the digital themostat so there would be a bigger window before it runs. If I set it at 68 degrees it will never go off that number whether its running or not. It ran 2 times while I am working on this email. Its a honey well thermostat

You did not say what model you use. Depending on the model , there might be setting for 'deadband' or 'system type'. Changing that value will affect when it turns on. If it switches on that frequently and the room feels comfortable, it might be that your thermostat is placed on wrong place - one which cools of quickly, or there is draft cooling it off. Digital thermostats have a 'learning period' and adjust to dynamic of the room.

Which type of T-Stat is it ? most standard t-stats have it built in that the temperature range is only a half a degree, it may seem like its running alot more, but in actuality it is maintaining better home comfort as it is not running as long as the old bimetal t-stats which would have a range of anywhere from 2-5 degrees which would cause the furnace to run alot longer, use more energy, use more fuel, and you would notice a definate change in the house temperture before it would come on or shut off, your t-stat seems to be working properly, and it will save you money, remeber also to change those filters !!!

If the furnace is cycling on and off and not reaching temp there is a problem in the control circuit. If the thermostat is not satisfied the furnace should be running without shutting off in which case the capacity of the furnace is inadequate because of size or problems reducing the capacity. This could be caused by an increase in home size, poor air flow (dirty filter, loose fan belts, fan running slow, obstructions in the duct), dirty heat exchanger or burner, reduced gas flow, over temperature switch bad causing the burner to shut off early, or a few more technical reasons. You may do well to call a technician to troubleshoot this problem.

Check for cold air inside the wall behind the thermostat, a cold wall, and area that is getting hot or cold air blowing on the thermostat. Last, the heater may not be compatible with some digital thermostats. Honeywell Customer Care toll-free at 1-800-468-1502.

RTH2310b thermostat not heating to temperature set, I turn it off and back on, it runs few minutes then shuts off not heating to temp set on thermostat

All thermostats have a "Differential" setting that causes the thermostat to turn off early as an energy saving feature to blow all the hot air out before the furnace fan shuts down. On some stats, there is a switch on the back for setting this and some have a programming choice for setting this time. Others have no setting but normally start the heat about 2 or 3 degrees below the set-point and shut it off 2 degrees above. In this case it would be called a 5 degree differential. Look for these as described and adjust it up 2 degrees if found. Good luck.

What is the model number of the thermostat? What may be happening is the humidity control is trying to satisfy the humidity setting by running the a/c. In the installers set-up, there should be a setting to determine how long the system should run to satisfy humidity setting. I typically set thermostats for a 3 degree droop. Meaning it'll only drop 3 degrees below set temp. Also check your humidity setting to be sure it's not set too low. It should be set between 45% and 50%.

Thermostat does not follow the setting

If the thermostat is a digital /programmable you may want to recheck program to see if it has changed or been changed. If thermostat is not digital then it is prbably warn out and need replaced.

New thermostat honeywell RTH7400 cycles oil furnace every 10 min.

rth7400 maintains a 1 degree differential in temp so 10 minute cycles are not unusual.

Temp shows 2 degrees warmer than what is was set to

sometimes the furnace does a better job than anticipated, i wouldn't worry about it, especially if the furnace shuts off.
the setpoint is the temperature you want it to be
cycle lenghts are determined by how much recovery you are requesting. for instance, in the morning when you wake up, you want the temperature to be at its setpoint. what the thermostat will do is make the furnace run a limited lengths during the recovery process.
