Question about Olympus DM-20 Digital Voice Recorder

1 Answer

All the buttons on the device do not work in the "recording mode"

The buttons work very well, without any trouble when I insert the batteries. But as soon as I switch to the "recording mode", the buttons do not work ! For example, once I press "Rec" the recording starts but I can't press "rec" again to pause it or "Stop" to stop it. I am clueless please help.

Thank you for your advice......I have tried the format option but it
still does not work.....I think there is no problem with the buttons,
but perhaps some sort of "lock" comes into play when you go into the
recording mode.....The buttons seem to work very smoothly otherwise,
but as soon as the recording starts, I can't stop it or pause
it.....any other hints would be very helpful...thanks

Only possible solution would be to format the recorder to see if anything changes... make sure to download files before formatting the recorder. format is found in the menu

Turning Off Recorder

Yes. Putting it on hold and then pressing the stop button will turn off the recorder. You can turn it back on by taking it off hold. It is technically off even though when you press a button while it is off it tells you that it is on hold. Don't worry, your batteries are safe for now =).

Limited recording time

WS-100: 64 MB
HQ mode: Approx. 4 hours 20 minutes
SP mode: Approx. 8 hours 40 minutes
LP mode: Approx. 27 hours 20 minutes

You can go to the menu of the device and change the recording mode from HQ to SP to get longer recording time. Page 7 of the instructions explains how to change this.

How do i unlock a rca digital recorder model rp 5020a? I have tried holding down the menu button but does not work.

Hello,
Normally, by pressing and holding the menu button down will lock and unlock the recorder. Since this is not working for you, you can unlock it by opening the battery compartment on the backside of the device and removing one of the batteries and then placing the battery back in and closing back the compartment. This will unlock the device also allowing you to use the functions. When I took the battery out for a split second it did not erase my test recording, but leaving the battery out for a long period of time may erase anything you have saved. I just wanted to make you aware of that. If you need an owners manual you can click the following link which will open in a pdf format for RCA Digital Voice Recorder Model # RP 5020A. I hope this helps solve your problem.

If you would not mind, please rate my help. I would greatly appreciate it. Thank You.

Olympus VN-3100PC Voice Recorder Problem

I fought with this machine for more than 9 months. And after playing with it today FINALLY got it working.

This is what I did:

Unscrew the faceplate. (Three screws. One is under the batteries).

Put the batteries back on.

Have the HOLD button on the normal position (down)

Press and hold the MENU/FOLDER button together with the STOP button

Press and hold the MENU/FOLDER button together with the DISPLAY button

You will see a GREEN light, then a RED light then a "FOR" message will appear

Press the DISPLAY button and after a few moments it will reset and ask you to enter the time.

GOOD LUCK. Let me know if it works for you.

HAVE A NICE DAY.

My New Panasonic RR-US470 digital recorder will not connect to my PC laptop. No PC indicator comes up on recorder. Worked before. Just quit. Customer service said exchange the recorder. I did and same...

What you need to do is unistall the driver for the device and reinstall it using the CD.

1. With the device connected go to the control panel
2. Search "driver" in the search box at the top right hand side of the screen
3. Choose the "device manager" option. If a pop up appears just choose continue.
4. At the bottom of the list open the menu for the "Universal Serial Bus Controllors" if it is not already open.
5. Double click on the "Panasonic IC Recorder" choice to open a new menu
6. Click on the "driver" tab
7. At the bottom of the list is the "uninstall driver (Advanced)" button, click it
8. After the driver is uninstalled disconnect the device from the PC
9. Reconnect the device, and it will bring up a new pop up. Choose the "Install Driver" option, it should be the first
10. It will then ask you to insert the CD that came with the device, just insert disc 1 in to the CD tray

Vista takes over from there and installs the driver for you and now your device will show the PC on the screen.

Hope that helps, I know it worked for me

I need a user manual for the Lanier P165 Voice recorder

I need a manual, too; however, I may be able to take an educated guess at some of your problems.

To get it to work (after trouble-shooting for battery issues, etc.), you simply slide the long "button" up and down. There are four settings -- all the way up is "record," then under that is "stop," then "play," and finally at the bottom is "rewind," which it does audibly. The two buttons beneath that are FF and eject (just below FF).

On the other side, there are four switches -- The top one adjusts microphone sensitivity from dictate to conference, the next one is tape speed (higher number means better quality but shorter time on tape), then the VOR on/off switch (voice-operated recording) which would start and stop the recording as you speak into it. Then below those three is simply the "on/off" switch for the whole recorder, so it doesn't accidentally get turned on in your pocket and you unintentionally record something.

On the top appear to be a few input jacks, one for a mic I guess and maybe other is for a speaker or headphones? Then there's the mystery button, that is labeled something like "# | / AFF." I have no idea what it does, but it may be to assign your counter number (counter and reset button on the front face of the machine) to a specific tape, so you can change tapes and return later to your first tape again without losing your place. Just a guess.

Here's some info I found on a seller's website - it served as the basis for some of my guesses above: http://www.martelelectronics.com/p165lp.html.

Good luck!

Not Able to Record/Playback

can't record on the my Olympus VN-1000
+ I press rec button and it just shows rec in display (no recording time is shown ONLY rec)
+ there is no play back  or stop function

+ i can only stop  rec by removing batteries (stop or play will stop rec only ONCE - but there is no  useful function - such as play or stop or rec.)
+ I tried all trouble shooting tips in manual  with no effect
+  i cleaned the spring contacts inside battery compartment that interface with the  batteries
+ it was barely used - and has not been used for a 1 year ( no batteries were inside it )     it was inside a drawer
THANK YOU
