The CD-Rom will spin the disc but then it will suddenly stop and will not play/read the disc. I don't know if the eye is working wrong

sounds like the cd drive is bad, If it does this with every disc then replace the drive, if it is just the one disc, there may be scratches or damage on the disc preventing it from being read.

After using recovery disc for windows xp there is no sound

You need to update the sound drivers, Find out what sound card you are using and search the web for the drivers by either typing your motherboard model or your computer model. Use search functions to help you find what you are looking for. I hope this helps. You might want to provide more info on the devices attached to your motherboard. Use device manager for more info.

Disk making funny noises and not reading

it sounds like your CD Rom Driver is not working properly. Check to see if there is no apparent physical damage to either the drive or the disc before and after you try to read the disc. If there is damage get it replaced.

Hope This Helps

Power on; won't boot up!

Hey, sounds like you may have a damaged operating system (I assume you have Window XP or later). Just re-install Windows with the disc or recovery option (if you have Windows installed on your motherboard) and select the recovery console, so you don't lose your data. If this is a problem with your bios or actual PC, you may want to contact the Gateway Technical Support at support.gateway.com or 1-800-846-2000.

Thank You

Won't boot up. Help!

could be a number of things, but first check the disc shaped CR2032 cmos battery located on the motherboard, in case it is flat. Then when the pc boots, you should get the cmos menu to enable you to alter the time and date. If still no boot, when it is booting press F8 and see if you can get to safe mode, and when in the menu select last known good configuration and press enter or a reboot. If you see no bios screen and the flashing cursor appears in the top left of the screen the cmos chip on the board is damaged, and the motherboard needs replacing.
