But my computer does not know the start button. When I try to enter my password, the computer says the password is incorrect and to press reset password. When I do this, I get an error code that says "No drive, the feature requires removable media, such as a floppy disk or USB flash drive. Please insert a floppy disk or USB flash drive. When I put in the flash drive, the computer goes to the Password Wizard and says I need a password reset disk. I called MicroSoft and they said since the Windows Vista came already installed on the computer, Acer would have to send me the password reset disk. I have called and called Acer with no assistance. No one picks up the phone. Can you please help me?

Forgetting your Windows administrator login password. With no way to get into the system, you can’t even perform basic maintenance, let alone a thorough tune-up. Formatting is always an option, but we consider that a last resort. (Plus, guess who’s going to have to help reinstall all the programs lost after a wipe?) But all hope is not lost. There are a few ways to actually retrieve a lost Windows account password. Read on, and we’ll show you the light.

1st Method:
The first thing which you check if you forget login password. When we install Windows, it automatically creates an account "Administrator" and sets its password to blank. So if you have forget your user account password then try this:
Start system and when you see Windows Welcome screen / Login screen, press ctrl+alt+del keys twice and it'll show Classic Login box. Now type "Administrator" (without quotes) in Username and leave Password field blank. Now press Enter and you should be able to log in Windows.
Now you can reset your account password from "Control Panel -> User Accounts".
Same thing can be done using Safe Mode. In Safe Mode Windows will show this in-built Administrator account in Login screen.

2th Method:
There are a lot of Windows password revealers and crackers available, but we’ve found that Windows Password Recovery Tool is the most effective.:
Windows Password Recovery Tool is one of the easiest password recovery tools to use. It allows you to reset a user account password, including the Administrator password. It is also a relatively small download.

I think you need to download a software. Beside reinstalling the computer, this is the only way to reset your laptop. I have downloaded one and created a bootable CD with the tool Windows Password Seeker and reset my administrator password successfully. If you've forgotten your Windows password and you're on a domain, you should contact your system administrator to reset your password. If you're not on a domain, you can reset your password by using a password reset disk or by using an administrator account.
If you forget the administrator password and don't have a password reset disk or another administrator account, you won't be able to reset the password. If there are no other user accounts on the computer, you won't be able to log on to Windows and will need to re-install Windows.

If you forget your computer password,
you can use a password reset disk to create a new one. We recommend
that you create a password reset disk when you create your password, so
you don't lose access to your files and information.

NoteA password reset disk can only be created for local user accounts. If your computer is on a domain, a network administrator can reset your domain logon password. To complete these steps, you'll need removable media such as a USB flash drive or floppy disk.

    1.

Open User Accounts by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking User Accounts and Family Safety, and then clicking User Accounts.

    2.

In the left pane, click Create a password reset disk, and then follow the instructions. Make sure you store the password reset disk in a safe place.

My daughter has forgotten her password and her laptop is locked, can anyone help please? Thanks

Depends on Operating System.

On XP, you can usually login as Administrator without a password (most owners don't set the Administrator password or diable the Administrator account, though they should), and then reset the users password.

As a computer tech, I use Spotmau Powersuite when computers come in and the client hasn't remembered to give me the password. It can/will reset the password to blank so you can login with just the User ID.

My daughter has left for college, she has forgotten the password on the computer she left at home and now it is asking for a password to get into windows xp/professional. Help

XP-(all versions) have a base 'Administrator' account that is already installed. This account can be used to change the password on the account created when XP was installed. By default this account does not have a password.

Boot into Safe Mode. This is done by pressing F8 repeatedly during start-up, until the 'advanced boot options' menu appears. Using the 'up or down arrow' keys, select "Safe Mode" and press [Enter]

Depending on the ver XP you have, you may have to ctl-alt-del to log in, but likely you will see the 'welcome screen' (blue) and the Administrator acct icon, as well as the other User account in question. Select the Administrator account.
[if someone has set a password for this account, then you will need to take it to a local repair shop for reset. I don't charge for this service but some might.]

Once at the desktop, press [Start] then go to 'control panel' and select User Accounts (you may have to choose 'classic view'.)

from there you select the User account you wish to change and go from there.

Which Password? Bios Password?Hard Drive Password? Windows Welcome Screen User Logon Password?

Which Operating System? Windows XP? Windows Vista?Windows 7?OK,if you are running Windows 7, Microsoft tightened security on it so you've gotto have a password reset disk which 99% of the people who own laptops withwindows 7 fail to do. It should be one of the first things you do whenyou buy the laptop. Otherwise, you're faced with reinstalling theOperating System or possibly doing a System Recovery.

If you're on Windows XP or Vista try this:

Turn off the computer, then hit the power button to turn it back on andimmediately start hitting the F8 key repeatedly until you see the Safe Modeoption. Select SAFE MODE and let the computer boot up. When it getsto the User Login screen it will show the Administrator userid and the useridfor which you forgot the password. Sign in as the Administrator(hopefully you didn't put a password on it and forgot it too). Once thedesktop appears it will look different, the screen will be darker and the iconsbigger, but this is normal for safe mode.

Click Start/Control Panel/User Accounts
When the User Accounts screen opens, click on the userid for which you forgotthe password. Select the option to REMOVE PASSWORD.

Reboot your machine.

Unable to login to laptop due to forgotten login password

First thing you can try is:

1: When booting up the laptop Press F8 until you see a screen show that has an option to boot in "Safe Mode"
2: Once it has finished booting up you can Select Administrator and hopefully there is no password set.
3: If there is no password set then login as Administrator and goto "Control Panel", Select User Accounts and change your daughter's password to something she wont forget ;p

if that fails then you can try this

http://www.lostpassword.com/

Offers a program that resets your passwords.

Hope this helped.

Forgotten administrator password can i reset?

Try tapping the F8 key every second or so as the computer first starts up. This should take you to a startup screen where you can choose to open Windows in SAFE MODE. Use the arrow keys to move the highlight to SAFE MODE and hit ENTER. Then try to log on as ADMINISTRATOR. If you didn't ever do this and set a password on that account, now you can get to CONTROL PANEL-USER ACCOUNTS and set an ACMINISTRATOR password (don't fforget it this time) and reset the user accounts passwords too.

3. Select Safe Mode and Press Enter
4. Voila! You are in Safe Mode
5. Log Out/ Switch User
6. You Should See and Icon for Your User Account and Administrator
7. Select Administrator.

2. Double-click Local Users and Groups, and then click Users.
3. Right-click the account that you need to reset the password for, and then click Set Password.
