My computer keep telling me to clear ARP cache? How do I do this?

To clear your ARP cache you need to do start, run, and then type in cmd in the command line to get to a command prompt

Once there use:

netsh interface ip delete arpcache

This is of course assuming you use Windows XP thru 7 or server.

LAN cannot see on arp -a command prompt

sometimes you have to ping the device before an ARP request will be sent. If you are trying to find out the IP address, use a network scanner. Some wireless utilities will actually give you the IP address of the AP you are connected to also. If all else fails, factory reset the router and you will then know the IP address.

The Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) is very crucial for TCP/IP network communication. If you begin to notice network connectivity problems such as particular web pages not loading or not being able to ping certain IP addresses then clearing your ARP cache is a good place to start. The TCP/IP ARP Command component provides the functionality to add, delete, or display the IP address for Media Access Control (MAC) address translation.

To flush/Delete the ARP cache in windows 7/Vista/XP/2000/Server 2003/2008 follow this procedure
Click on Start->Run-> type the following command click ok
netsh interface ip delete arpcache
Dynamic ARP cache entries update persist for 2-20 minutes depending on the system.
Windows 2003 Server = 10 minutes
Windows 2000 professional/Server = 10 minutes
Windows XP = 2 minutes
Solaris = 5 minutes
Delete IP address using arp command
arp -d <ip address>
arp -d
Display arp table
arp -a
Add static entry to ARP table
arp -s <ip address> <mac address>
arp -s 00-aa-00-62-c6-09

Wireless problem

Changing MAC address of a router is usally not nessicary and can cause this issue. ARP (Address Resoution Proticol) maps the IP addresses of ever device on the network to their MAC addresses. To make this process more efficent computers cache (store) this information for quicker retrival. So once your computer has connected to your router it stores it's MAC address. When it trys to connect again, and you've changed the MAC address the computer will still try to connect t a device with the old MAC address which now doesn't exist.
If you find it nessicary to change the MAC address of the router you'll want to clear the ARP cache on the machines that connect to it. To do so type "netsh interface ip delete arpcache" from a command line.

This is not a solution this is diagnosis.

First it is clear your wireless1.gif communicationis failing.

Can you attach with a wire such as an ethernet cable to the router (not bypassing the router directly to the ISP's equipment)?

If yes was that tested and did it work?

If not you may have a configuration issue with you ISP on the WAN or modem2.gif side of the router. Or you may have the gateway address set incorrectly. Or you may be missing DNS addresses to access sites by name.

I will need the ISP's name or support web site2.gif address to assist with the above

If the above works on to the wireless connection.

Does the wireless router1.gif and wireless adapter1.gif (built-in or add-on) share a common communication band (a, b, g or n)? if not that is an issue.

When attempting to connect can you see your routers name?
Was the name changed from the default to assure it is not your neighbor's router?

Did you apply1.gif encryption (WEP or WPA) to either the router or the wireless adapter and not to the other device?

Do you have MAC Filtering turned on in the router and failed to add the MAC address of the wireless adapter?

If statically addressed do the wireless adapters have valid unique addresses in the router's subnet? A subnet mask that matches the router's? The router's address as the default gateway? One or more valid DNS addresses?

If dynamically addressed does the DHCP server provide all of the above? If not (possibly DNS) is it properly configured into the wireless adapter.

Please answer the above in a response and I will attempt to provide some additional steps to determine the issue and generate a solution.

Duplicate/incorrect MAC addresses in the CAM table

This is from the Cajun P333R manual but it should be very similar if not identical.

Good Luck.

arp timeout Command
Use the arp timeout command to configure the amount of time that an entry
remains in the ARP cache. To restore the default value, 14400, use the no form of
this command.
The syntax for this command is: arp timeout <seconds>
The syntax for the no form of this command is: no arp timeout <seconds>
To set the arp timeout to one hour:
Router(configure)# arp timeout 3600
To restore the default arp timeout:
Router(configure)# no arp timeout
ip-address IP address, in dotted decimal format, of the station
hardware-address 48-bit address of the local data link
seconds The amount of time, in seconds, that an entry
remains in the arp cache.
