SOURCE: motor for my Bernette 335 overlocker

Yes, motors for sewing machines are very easy to replace with suitable replacements. They are quite common in other industries and the specs are pretty much identical. Happily a sewing machine motor is rather easy to replace compared to most other assemblies on it. I will always urge you to take it to your locally certified Bernina dealer or contact one online, make sure to confirm your model and serial number and a replacement can be sent out to you. Sergers are a bit tricky in taking the covers off and ensuring minimal damage to the plastic so I would recommend you take it to a service tech first before trying yourself.

Overlocker Bernette

If this is new it will still be under guarantee so have it checked out. It sounds like a badly aligned or blunt upper blade.
Overlockers will sometimes struggle with thick fabrics and putting something to help keep the foot level to " jump the bump" will often help, discuss that with the sleasperson too.

Can i download a free manual for my Bernina Bernette 234 overlocker,

Yes, go to the Bernina website where you will find it available to download. Just click on the red link with the right name of your machine on it (there are 4 different manuals). The file is zipped so you will need to unzip it in order to read the manual.

What is the settings for rolled hem using your overlocker

You haven't specified your overlocker make and model but some parts of the set up will be the same; you still need to consult your machine manual to find out the changes needed to the foot. Bernettes have a little switch near the blade that you flick to change how the stitch forms so it rolls.

You need a 3 thread overlock with the right hand needle (I'm assuming you have a 4 thread lock) turn the stitch length down to 0.5 so it is very closed up. And there is usually a little thread finger on the foot that needs to be changed or a switch you flick to move it back.

Then lower the tension down on the upper looper so this thread goes over the edge to the underside and tighten up the lower looper dial so this thread lies against the needle stitch.

Move the blade to the right so the fabric is cut wider than the seam that the threads are forming so the cut edge rolls underneath and is encased in the threads.

It is best to use wooly overlock thread on at least the top looper so this "fills" in the rolled edge.

If you visit you-tube and search using "Rolled Hem" or Nancy Zieman you should find some helpful videos too.

My Bernette 203 will not cut the material or thread. I need to know the correct placement of the cutting knives.

First to see if the top blade is pressing against the lower blade when it goes past to make the cut.
You should be able to push the top blade to the right and have it spring back to the left. Do that to see if there is a small amount of presser on the lower blade.

Next, the cutting part of the top blade should drop just under the lower blade buy about 2 mil.

Also the lower blade should be level with the needle/stitch plate.

Blades also may need sharpened. The top one can be done with just about any sharpening tool but the botom is carbide so you will need a dimond wheel to sharpen it

Hope this helps

Newcastle where?

In the US, a sewing machine repair service can do the work - a Bernina tech would be better.

Service starts at about $100 plus any parts that have to be replaced.

If you go to the Bernina website, there should be a dealer locator option.

I want to know which knob I use to make the stitching narrower

there are generally two variable controls .. one adjusts the stitch length (distance between stitches measured in stitches per inch) ... the second is stitch width .. that adjusts how far the zigzag moves left and right .. thats usually just a number from 0 to 10 or so .. 10 would be maximum width .. 0 would be used for straight stitch ..
so you need to adjust the stitch width control to make the stitching narrower .. the controls are called different things on different brand sewing machines .. if you have the brand and model number then there may be instruction booklets available ...
