Log into the 2wire with the defalt gateway ip adress to get that go to start and then run type in (command) in the run box or (CMD) same thing when the black box comes up type in ( ipconfig /all) it will give you a network makeup list you are looking for the defalt gateway type in the defalt gateway ip adressa into an internet explorer adress box at the top EXAMPLE (192.168.1.1) it will bring you to the login screen for the router from there you will have to look around and find the firewall and turn it off windows has its own dont worry about the one in the 2 wire im guessing you have dsl the password for the login may be plank it may be admin it may be password it might even be on the bottom of the 2wire itself if you find yourself not bing able to find it put your 2wire molel number and the words defal login in a google search

There can be several issues. I suspect virus attached to rootkit.
First, check if your computer has all the necessary updates.
Second, scan it with antivirus program for viruses and malware(can be that they are clogging your computer and connection.
I recommend NOD32 and MalwareBytes.

Hope this helps...

First look in device manager and verify that the network adapter is enabled, if so you can try disabling it then shut down and reboot the PC.
Once booted, go back into device manager and enable the network adapter.
Run the software that came with your router and follow the steps provided.
Make sure your network cable from your router is NOT connected untill instructed to do so.
You will need to have the network cable from your modem connected to your PC for the router software to detect network connection.

Good luck, I hope this helps.
Have a nice day.

Yahoo Browser connects to internet, but Explorer&AVG update wont

Yahoo Connects but IE and AVG wont
1. Try opening AVG and adjusting the connection settings.
2. Go to Start/ Network connections/ Local area connection/ General tab/ Scroll down to TCP/IP/ highlight it and click properties. Make sure "obtain IP address automatically" is checked. Under the advanced setting there, DHCP should be enabled.
3. Verify setting in Internet Explorer under: Tools/Options/ Connections/ Lan Settings/ select "automatically detect settings"

You might also check your AVG program for a firewall conflict or block there.

Let me know if this helps

What kind of anti-virus and anti-malware programs are you running? This sounds like you might have been infected by a trojan/virus and that one or the other or even both of your anti-virus/anti-malware programs are blocking a hijacked home page. If this is indeed the case, the antivirus and/or anti-malware programs are doing the jobs they are supposed to do. You will need to run an excellent anti-malware program such as MalwareBytes located here
and SuperAntiSpyware located here
Run those two programs after updating them of course to ascertain the status of your computer. Let the programs do the job they are intended to do, i.e. scan and remove what they find, then reboot your computer. I also suggest the use of a good FREE antivirus program called AVAST Home Free version located here
Avast has been my antivirus of choice for over 4 years now, great automatic updating and free registration for a year at a time. You will have to go to to the website to complete their registration form, but it's simple as pie and you love the fact that you did. So do at least the first two things, then come back to us with word of what you found on your system.

2wire 1700 failing; can you coach?

It does'nt have to be 2.1 amp as long as that it delivers at least 2.1 amp. It could be 3, 4, 5, 6 or even 7 amp as long as it's not less than 2.1 amp and the voltage is 5v. That gives you more options. The only other thing is the plug that goes in to the 2Wire box. Usually the hole (center pin) in the plug is the positive and the outer sleeve is the negative. Some but not many are the opposite way round.
