Question about Microsoft Windows XP Professional

1 Answer

Partition parameter hello I used partition magic to split a filled partition(D:) into 2 parts D: and K:. After I reboot the D: partition became a RAW partition nad says parameter is incorrect and does not opens(no properties). In Partition Magic the D: part shows up having previous data but the computer Management shows the partion without File system and completely empty. The K:partition shows in the computer management with FAT32 type but does not shows up in My computer. when tried to merge them again using Partition Magic it requires a format of D:. Is there still Data left in D: ? How will K:show up ?

From the data you provided, the D drive is deleted and is newly created. But it is not yet formatted. So the data is virtually deleted. Why I said virtually is because, the data is still there on the drive physically and you can recover it using third party tools like OO disk recovery tool. That is why partition magic is still showing data on it.
And it is also obvious that the task which Partition Magic started (splitting drives) is not finished properly. That is why K partition is incorrectly formatted. It is natural that it asks format of D drive because D drive belongs to no file type and it must be of FAT32 or NTFS or other file system.
The solution for your problem is try recovering your data on D drive using disk recovery tools. Then format it using FAT32 or NTFS. Format K drive also in FAT32 or NTFS. Use either partition magic or Computer Management. Since already PM caused problems on your computer, try computer management. It is safe.

Use Hirens Boot CD v10.0 and go into the Disk Partition Tools and then Select Partition Magic option.

N.B> You will have to create an ISO version for your country place the original ISO into the keyboard patch folder and run the batch file this will create a language specific version that you can burn using the BurnCDCC included or Lightning excellent ImageBurn if your prefer.

You will then see your 2 partitions the C: will be the primary partition this is where your XP is stored. F: will probably be an extended partition with a logical drive if you can access this its a good idea to remove it. PM will also rewrite your boot.ini file that is used to control multiple DOS. This will leave you one DOS and an unused area of HDD which you can create another partition for images the same software.

How can i use partion magic

step by step.
1)open partition magic then on the screen,to your left, you will see where it is written "pick a task",just below you will see something like create a partition, click that and this will open up a wizard, click next on that and
2)you will be brought to a page asking you to choose were you want the partition to be.ideally you just click next because the best recomended position would have already been highlighted for you.
3)Now you will be asked to choose the partitions where you want the free space to come from, again this the best will be highlighted for you so click next.
4)now you will be asked what you would like the new space to be,pretty straight forward ther, you enter the size, label and i would advise you to press next but its up to you if you would like any other details.then press next.
5)you will be asked to confirm and after you have made sure all is as you want it,click on finish.
6)you will come to the initial page, now look to your bottom left were you can now click apply. The computer will ask if it can reboot, just say yes and it will restart.
7)This part requires patience becuse pmagic will have to apply the changes on computer startup.just let it finish and you will be taken to your normal windows were vista will say it has found new devices and so on,just bclick ok and you will be fine.
side notes.
1)Vista might also require a reboot to install the partition,it will tell you if so.
2)when partition magic is applying the changes (7) you might get a blank screen, dont panick, just make sure you are well connected to power and wait.

Partition problem

In my humble opinion, the best option is to install a second (blank or larger) drive. Install some recovery software such as "easy recovery pro" or something that will be able to read files from a filesystem that has had the partition table written over. Start with trying to scan using FAT32, and in failing that, try NTFS. Restore the data to the second drive, format the first and partition as required. Copy the data back to the first drive to the partitions that you specified, and erase the data from the second drive. A free option may be pandora recovery, available at http://www.pandorarecovery.com/features/
