SOURCE: timing a viking 990

Impossible to explain how to time a sewing machine you need to be shown. Basically it entails setting the needle depth then making sure the hook passes just above the eye of the needle at a set height as the needle is rising, this ensures the hook catches the upper thread. Also the hook needs to be set a specific distance from the needle. Sounds easy but sometimes it can be very difficult and fiddly job.

SOURCE: Have Viking 990 and feed

Is it that the feed dogs won't go up and down, or that you can't adjust the stitch length? If the feed dogs won't go up and down after you have released the feed dog button and cycled the handwheel one revolution, than there is a mechanical adjustment needed. I the stitch length can't be ajdusted, that It's either a circuit board of a step motor problem. The repair shop should be able to tell you that they swaped the feed motor with the zig zag motor to test this issue.

Do you know Viking 5430 has buttonhole?

Best bet is to check your owner's manual. If it has a buttonhole function, there will be instructions on how to use it. If it doesn't you can always make them like we used to on the older machines:

Remove sensor one-step buttonhole foot

Sounds like the sensor has gone bag or something is stuck in the socket (connector). Check that there is nothing stick in the socket/connector. If still not working, you will need to have it serviced by a Viking Service Tech. You can find a dealer near you by using the link 'Locate a Dealer' at the Husqvarna Viking Website - http://www.husqvarnaviking.com/us

I need to learn how to make a buttonhole on my Husqvarna 210 electronic sewing machine. My manual is gone.

You may be able to still get that manual, check with your dealer. If not you can call Viking at: 1-800-474-6437 if it's out of print for a photo copy of the original owners manual.

To make a buttonhole do the following:

1. Turn the selector dial to the top position, That is the first step of the buttonhole.
2. Turn the stitch length dial (the bottom dial) to the picture of the buttonhole, it's between the 0 and the 1 on the dial.
3 Put on the "C" foot and put the tension dial, (the small dial just above and to the right of the needle) on 4.
4. On a test fabric, sew about an inch or so and stop. Turn the selector dial down one click and sew the bar tack of the buttonhole. Just do a few passes, don't build up alot of stitches here.
5. Turn the dial down another click to the 3rd step, the right side of the buttonhole and sew until you reach the place where you started the left column of the buttonhole and stop.
6. Turn the dial UPWARD one click to the bar tack position again and do another bar tack like you did at the top of the buttonhole. Don't build up alot of stitches here, about three passes does the trick.
7 Remove the fabric from the machine and when you cut the threads, leave a tail about 2 inches or so of the thread. From the back side of the buttonhole, pull gently on the thread and a loop from the front thread will appear on the backside. Pull the front thread to the rear and tie off the threads and then cut them close to the knot you tied and the buttonhole will not come apart.

Machine sewing backwards only

If you machine was recently serviced, the service tech might have reversed the motor connections. If not, it could be the zero feeding mechanism is stuck. Try dropping your feeddogs, i.e. like sewing on a button. Then raise your feeddogs to see if the problem clears. What happens when you sew a buttonhole using the automated buttonhole accessory? If these do not work, it may be your pc board which has a 5 year warranty if you are the original purchaser from an authorized Husqvarna Viking dealer. If resetting feeddogs does not clear the problem, Will probably need service by an authorized Husqvarna Viking dealer. If the service tech cannot repair, they can send to Husqvarna Viking Service Technician for repair. Visit the Husqvarna Viking website for a list of dealers closest to you. http://www.husqvarnaviking.com/us Good luck.

Buttonholes

Put on the C foot. Select the buttonhole stitch. The machine will start sewing in the bottom left corner of the the buttonhole. Sew the length that you need, press and release the reverse button and sew the right side of the buttonhole. When you get back to the bottom, press and release the reverse button again and the buttonhole will be finished and the thread will tie off and the machine will stop. If the buttonhole is what you want, press and release the Stop button and the machine will repeat this buttonhole as many times as you need until the machine is turned off or the Stop is pressed again. When repeating, you need not press the reverse. Just press down on the foot control and continue until the machine stops by itself.
If you don't like the first one, just sew another one using the reverse button to set the ends.
