My whirlpool ultimate care fills with water but agitator will not spin, i am just hearing spinning sounds, seems like theres a loose thread or something, what can i do? please help.I too have this problem, washer works fine the lower agitator does it's job the top agitator just spins loosely

Hi,It is the agitator gear is striped,Remove the cap on the agitator and you will see a nut,Remove the nut and you will see a plastic gear,just replace that gear and put it back together and you are done

Sounds like a faulty transmission. Also, make sure this machine is not sitting in a cold environment. If it is...run a blow dryer under it for awhile and try again. But really I think the transmission is gone.
Thats very agitating.There is a motor that runs the agitater,its either going out or you have lost the drive,a little spendy to have fixed.

If the motor is running but no agitation or spin is happening, then most likely the coupling between motor and gearbox has gone- look for black sooty deposits under your washer as proof. There may also be one or more pieces of white plastic. This coupling usually goes if the washer is overloaded regularly.
if you hear the motor running while it is supposed to be agitating or spinning then it is most likely the direct drive coupling between the motor and transmission.if you already checked this and think
it is a different problem then let me know, i will help you figure it out.Mike
