Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

The problem is that the dial goes around for the setting required and water fills up, but the agitator doesn't move.

This doesn't happen all the time and seems spasmodic.

Can you provide a complete model number? If this is a top loader check the lid switch. You should hear a click just after opening and a click just before it's closed.

SOURCE: Whirlpool filling and washing, not draining, rinsing or spinning

Check out your outlet filter, probable it is clogged. Clean this out and refit. Most cases when the drain or spin does not work, it is the filter. This is a suggestion.

SOURCE: Actual model is WWA3650SALWH

I got this straight from the GE service people. If you have the model that has the magnetic strip sensor under the lid (to signify if the lid is closed or not) and not the pin kind...try this:

1. unplug the washer for about ten minutes, then plug back in.

2. open and close the lid five times.

Seriously, this worked for me and I was having the same problem (the washer would fill but wouldn't agitate or spin). I guess this combination resets the electronics within the washer.

Hope this helps!

SOURCE: Washing machine is Kenmore mod. 110 22422100.

You have a broken point inside the timer. I hate to say that there is no cheap solution. You will have to replace the timer. There is no rebuild kit or anything like that to repair the timer. I know of two suppliers where you can buy a replacement. I use these sometimes when I regular supplier hasn't got a part in stock. I checked the price at both for you and found the best price at www.appliancepartspro.com . their cost if $123.08 plus shipping. They ship same day if before 4:ooPM. Their Part Number: AP3020181 . When you go to their site enter either your model number or this part number. If you enter you model #, scroll down until you find the timer, Th part # will take you straight to it. I sure hope this helps.

When the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem: It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer. It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water.

Washer won't fill

Hi pollystepp.

Without knowing the make and model, a basic answer to this problem is that the fill switch has gone bad. If your machine proceeds to agitate and spin without water, the washing machine 'thinks' it has water in it and this happens when the fill switch is stuck open. Rarely, the tube that goes from the tub to the switch may be clogged which may cause the switch to remain open.

Good luck from Detroit, MI.

Water level sensor in an Amana LWA65AW Washer?

What likely happened is when you replaced the belt you may have disconnected the hose to the water level switch. It is (usually) a clear hose that attaches to the side of the washtub and goes to an air pressure switch that senses the water level to tell the machine to shut the water off and go into agitate mode.

If the hose is not disconnected you may either have a bad water level switch, it may have been accidentally unplugged electrically when replacing the belt, or there is a hole in the hose, connection to the washtub or on the switch.
