THE DISPLAY OF THE SCREEN IS CUT IN HALF ONLY THE BOTTOM HALF HAVE PICTURES AND WHEN I TAP THE SET ON THE SIDE THE PROBLEM IS FIX FOR A WHILE,BUT IT KEEPS COMONG BACK...AND THEN NOW WHEN I PUSH THE OFF BUTTON THE SOUNDS SUDDENLY GETS LOUD AND WHEN I TRY TO SWITCH IT BACK ON THERES NO POWER...WHAT SEEMS TO BE THE PROBLEM?
You have an electrical malfunction inside the unit which can NOT be repaired by tapping, nor can it be repaired by a person who doesn't have extensive experience repairing consumer electronics devices. It is imperative that you have a professional repair the device... or throw it away, if you don't feel the repair cost can be justified. This problem will NOT get better on it's own or by tapping, and could conceivably result in the unit self-destructing and burning your house down in the process.

It sounds like Ratio problem. It should be a button on your TV remote and or Cable TV box that will allow you to set the picture size to 4:3 Ratio, 16:9 or FULL Look at your manuals they use sveral terms, sometime they use picture, Zoom or Ratio.
sounds like a capacitor in the unit might be faulty. not reaching full charge, any other items get spiked in the blackout? insurance might be the way to go. i had a set top box that fried all the capacitors, i replaced the , cost about $10Au and some time soldering. unit works better now that before,
YES..............All of these Magnavox TV/VCR combo units have fusses in them. Be aware of the fact that some of these fuses...do NOT look like fuses. THey're small round BLACK parts which have an F on top of them. They are SOLDERED to the PC board.
I'm very familiar with these fuses. BERNIE
