Question about Mitsubishi WS-65819 TV

Vertical Lines on my Mitsubishi WS-65819

There are vertical lines that appear intermittently on the screen of my Mitsubishi WS-65819. The TV will work fine and suddenly the screen will fill up with vertical lines spaced about an inch apart all the way across the screen. The problem started about a week ago, it seems to happen more often now. The picture is still visible behind the lines. It happens when the input is switched to cable TV and also when the input is switched to DVD to watch movies. I've tried changing out DVD players and still have the same problem. I've also tried removing the cable box from the system. So far nothing has helped. The lines keep coming back. Any suggestions?

Re: Vertical Lines on my Mitsubishi WS-65819

This sounds like a bad connection or a bad capacitor in the 220 volt source that supplies the voltage for the CRT boards. You will need to get a schematic and trace out this voltage from the PM board to the CRT driver boards when the set acts up. it could even be a connection on one of the plugs from the PM board to the CRT boards. Sorry but not a real easy repair. Might take some time to trace unless a component is failing. Good Luck

Yes, remove front speaker grill (pulls off) and inspection plate behind it.

There are 3 large circuit boards as you look from the front---signal to the right, power to the left and Deflection (vertical and Horizontal) in the middle.

What you want to look for is on the middle board any sign of GLYCOL which sometimes leaks from the picture tubes above it.

It is a clear liquid and even tiny amounts can short or stop the board from working; most damage should be in first 3 inches from front of the board----if you find any DO NOT TOUCH IT as it is toxic.

Glycol damage is not uncommon and the first thing you want to look for.

Can't aline the vertical red and blue on the left

The Convergence circuit has failed. It is recommended that a professional do the job.
The Convergence IC's need to be replaced.
It will be a STK393-110 or a pair of STK392-570's.
Hope this helps,

Mitusbushi VS-4544 Horizontal lines then looses picture.

I'll take a guess here that the lines are at a slight angle. I believe that these are "retrace" lines and are an indication that the flyback transformer is starting to fail. The vertical IC would cause a collapse of the picture and bad caps in the circuit would effect the linearity of the picture. You can check for poor solder joints as they could cause any nunber of symptoms.

Keep us posted.

Intermittent convergence issue became permanent

Hi Ed,

Your convergence amplifiers are definitely bad. The user manual will not work, since it is the same manual that comes with the set when it was new. The service manual can be found at:

Thin vertical line

What you have described is definitely some form of Electrical Interference. Interference can come from a variety of causes. Is the Cable Inputting the Cable Box close to some High Voltage Electrical Lines? Or Are you located near some Electrical Power Station? Or A Police station, where the Radio Transmitter of the Police Station causing the Interference? As I said, there are a variety of reasons. Also, Try to check if the connector is loose at the rear of the Cable Box, or at the rear of the TV. You will have to eliminate every possibility reason. Wish i could help further.
