Problem with instalation of Zen Vision M

I have had my Zen in the box unpacked for about a year. Finally decided to set it up. When I ran a set-up CD, right at the begining it told me that Media Player 10 was incompatible with my system (Windowx XP professional, Version 2002, Service pack2). That's where the installation ended for me. So my PC does not recognize Zen, Zen can not be charged through USB, because Set-up CD has not been installed. What shoul I do? Please, help.

This is a common problem. Just d/l the latest version of windows media player. Since version 10 (or was it 11?) microsoft has fixed windows media player to work with the zen.

You still need to install the latest version of windows media player. If you need it the cd installation software is here: http://files.filefront.com/Creative_Zen_...
However you will run into the same problem if you don't upgrade.

Try uninstalling it and then when you go to reinstall it, deselect the Media Player 10 from the download list because it's not necessary for the download process. It's just an extra product that they try to get you hook up with.

Zen v plus. Computer not recognizing.

I had the same issue with my zen vision m. It was not recognized on any computer (although it would charge) and I noticed that when I turned it on after having it off for any amount of time, the zen would rebuild half way before turning on.
If this is what is happening with you, then this one solution I found to fix it:
Download the MP3 Recovery Tool from Creative Support website. Make sure that your Zen is charged at least half.   Turn on your Zen, Holding the power switch in the on position (Very Important!). While holding the Power switch on, Reset the Zen by inserting a small object in the Reset hole on the bottom of the Zen (small objects can include thumbtack, wire, earring, etc...). You will see a menu: Clean Up, Format, Reload OS/Firmware, Reboot. (It is now safe to stop holding the Power switch) I decided to go down the list until something worked.  I ran Clean Up first and that didn't work for me, so I tried Format.  It will remove all of your data. Once Format runs, Reboot the MP3 player and plug it up to the computer. Run MP3 Recovery Tool. The firmware should should install itself on your MP3. Once installed, your computer should recognize the Zen.
I hope this helps!

Mp3 zen not recognised by firmware

I think I can help.  I had a similar issue where the recovery tool would recognize my mp3 but the firmware would not.  This is what I did:    Turn on your Zen, Holding the power switch in the on position. While holding the Power switch on (very important), Reset the Zen by inserting a small object in the Reset hole on the bottom of the Zen (I used an earring). You will see a menu: Clean Up, Format, Reload OS/Firmware, Reboot. I decided to go down the list until something worked.  I ran Clean Up first and that didn't work for me, so I tried Format.  Note that this will remove all of your data.
Once Format runs, Reboot the MP3 player and plug it up to the computer. Run MP3 Recovery Tool. At this point, the firmware recognized my MP3 and installed successfully. Once installed, my computer recognized my Zen.

CAN'T FIND THE FM TUNER IN THE MENU

  • The player may have to be formatted, which will erase the contents of the player. If you would like to manually update the firmware, please see below.
  • Please note that some firmware updates may format the player. Please read the installation notes for the firmware update before downloading it.
The MP3 Player Recovery Tool can be downloaded at www.creative.com/mp3playerrecoverytool.

Cannot reload firmware

I had the Exact same problem and no one had a good solution, i only found one that finally worked after spending 4 freakin hours tryin to fix it. anyway here is the solution.

you need to use a computer that has Windows XP, then if the computer is running any version of Windows media player other than 10, roll back or upgrade to Media player 10. restart the computer.

Now, you need to download and run http://www.delldjsite.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=462 honestly i have no idea what it does. my guess is it reinstalles the USB ports but thats only a guess. but i was so frusterated by the time i found this solution that i was willing to try anything. so download this file, unpack it and run it. then it will ask you to restart. when your computer is restarted run the new firmware file ( i used 1.62.2.0) and it works.

Why? i have no idea, but it i was pumped. the origional site i got this solution from is http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum/showthread.php?t=18864
