InSinkErator Badger 5hp NOISY

2 YRS old - I reset it; I used allen wrench to try to unclog a clog - nothing in there! When I run it it RATTLES as if there are loose parts clanging around in there. What could that possibly be? If I felt free to run it with all that noise, I do think it runs fine/grinds things/does not clog. Help!

Our Badger disposal starting making a noise that sounded like the blades weren't balanced or something. It grinds fine and works fine. It's only about 6 mos. old, but I would like to find out what's wrong with it before I use it anymore.

there's nothing in it. the rattle is intense and sounds like something broke loose inside it. it's definitely a metal on metal noise.

I installed mine about 2 months ago and it ran great until a couple of days ago. Now it vibrate like crazy and makes a loud noise to go along with it. Not a loose part kind of rattle sound but something is not right. I reset it and that didn't help.

I had the same problem.  I felt around and felt nothing in there like a spoon or whatever.  I shined a flashlight down in there and couldn't see anything.  I ran it again, and shined the flash light down there.  Finally, I noticed a dime in the bottom.  I couldn't feel it, couldn't see it on the first look, but as soon as I removed it, problem solved.

AMAZING! I have had the metal on metal sound for months and couldn't see anything in there. I even felt around ( power off!!!) and couldn't find anything. I was getting ready to replace it or at least take it all apart when I read your tip. THANK YOU! It took about three short bursts of running it before what was left of the the dime landed somewhere i could see it. I fished it out with tongs and problem solved!

If it were me I would remove the disposal, turn it upside down and see what comes out. Would I run it with something in it making a lot of noise? Absolutely not. If something is loose in it, it could harm the disposal.

I had the grinding sound, a shrilling noise. Then it jammed. I freed it with allen wrench and it started with the noise again. I checked with a flash light and found a small nail jammed inside. I was able to remove the nail. Everything works fine now. I also gave instructions, again, on keeping the drain catch in the drain at all times!

Badger insinkerator, 1/3 HP does not start. Please help...i try the red button and didn't work...the blades aren't rotating....

Use wood broomstick handle down into disposal.
Wedge broomstick against side of sink opening and rotate blades free.
Or use allen wrench on bottom of disposal to free cutter blade.

If blades rotate freely and disposal has power, and reset is not tripped or will not reset, then disposal is bad.

I have a Badger Insinkerator Model 5-81A. I put some asparagus ends into it to dispose of them. They were ground up but water is now coming back up when I turn it on. I have lost the directions and...

yes that is right. keep turning the allen wrench untill it turns easily. then push the reset hard and try it. you dhould hear the unit run. if its running and you still have standing water, the the drain lines have plugged.

Humming noise when turn on, but blade/motor not moving. Tried reset button and turn the motor with allen wrench. What else can I do?

its stuck, is it still under warranty. either the motor is bad or something is jammed in there. you need to turn the blades by hand or allen , if nothing, then the motor is somehow bad, need to replace.

Where is the reset button on my Badger .5 in sink erator.I think it got a small bone,in it. I stopped immediatly removed everyhting,Used the wrench so the water would go down but now it wint turn on

There is a square button on the bottom of the unit, about 1.5 inches from the center. In addition to using the allen wrench to loosen the blade, I also had to press that button to get my disposal running again.
