Question about Scientific Explorer Sour Candy

1 Answer

The Sour Gummi Candy instructions do not tell us when to add the sugar. They stick in the molds and wondering what the best fix is for that-should we try spraying with Pam. Also, what do you recommend for flavoring? and when is best time to add coloring? Thanks!

Tip

Be the cotton candy maker!

Here is how to operate a professional cotton candy machine.
First of all make sure you are renting the machine from a reputable company and that it arrives with a trained professional who knows how to operate it properly.
Also make sure that the machine is on a steady base and that no children or animals can get too close.

It is best to use a plug just for the machine instead of sharing it with other appliances.

To begin, turn on the machine's main power switch and fill the floss head with sugar.
It is very important not to fill the head above 90%.

Turn the machine's motor and then the heat switch on, putting the head dial setting on HIGH.
The sugar will start forming in about 45-60 seconds.

When the cotton candy starts pouring out you should have your cone ready. Dip it in the machine and pick the cotton candy by giving the cone a twirl that will gather the sugar around the cone.
Avoid rolling the cone around in circles as it is not the correct method to gather cotton candy.

When you are done, first of all turn off the HEAT and allow the motor to continue running at least 45 seconds, in order to get rid of the leftover sugar, and cool down the heating element.
Than disconnect the stabilizer screen and clips, rinsing them in warm water to dissolve the sugar.
You can now remove the floss pan from the main unit and rinse it off.

Children must not play with the cotton candy machine. It certainly is fun but it is not a toy.

Hard candy did not harden

  • Sometimes the boiling sugar and water mixture appears to break just before it reaches a temperature stage. If this happens, take it off the heat immediately and stir it gently. You should be able to get it to recombine. Use a medium-high heat so the syrup cooks relatively quickly.
  • Also, be sure you're using high quality butter - never margarines, which may contain too much water for candy making.
  • If you are in a very humid climate or a rainy one, choose drier days for candy-making. Excess water - which can even come from the air, can also cause butter/sugar syrups to break.

Hi pandoramagic...
This is not the company that you bought your machine from, it is an "Answer Company" we supply answers to questions people have.
You need a special sugar in the machine (read below), and you can use liquid food coloring to color the sugar/cotton candy and different liquid flavors to flavor the cotton candy.
Typical machines used to make cotton candy include a spinning head enclosing a small "sugar reserve" bowl into which a charge of granulated, colored sugar (or separate sugar and food coloring) is poured. Heaters near the rim of the head melt the sugar, which is squeezed out through tiny holes by centrifugal force. Precolored sugar packaged specially for the process is milled with melting characteristics and a crystal size optimized for the head and heated holes; granulated sugar used in baking contains fine crystals which spin out unmelted, while rock sugar crystals are too large to properly contact the heater, slowing the production of floss.
The molten sugar solidifies in the air and is caught in a larger bowl which totally surrounds the spinning head. Left to operate for a period, the cottonlike product builds up on the inside walls of the larger bowl, at which point the machine operator twirls a stick, cone, or their hands around the rim of the large catching bowl, gathering the sugar strands into portions which are served on stick or cone, or in plastic bags. As the sugar reserve bowl empties, the operator recharges it with more feedstock. The product is sensitive to humidity, and in humid summer locales, the process can be messy and sticky.
