Park neutral safety switch could be bad , also the shift interlock safety system .
Shift Interlock System A brake/shifter interlock system consists of the following:
  • ignition switch (11572)
  • brake pedal stoplight switch (13480)
  • brake shift interlock module
  • brake shift interlock solenoid assembly (attached to key interlock assembly)
  • necessary wiring
On floor-shift vehicles, the ignition/shifter interlock cable (3F719):
  • locks the floor shift transaxle range selector lever in the PARK position when the ignition switch is in the LOCK position.
  • requires the floor shift transaxle range selector lever to be in the PARK position to turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
Condition Possible Source Action
  • Shift Interlock System Does Not Release or Lock Properly
  • Circuitry open/shorted.
  • Blown fuse.
  • Damaged stoplight switch.
  • Damaged shift lock actuator.
  • GO to Pinpoint Test A .

PINPOINT TEST A: SHIFT INTERLOCK SYSTEM DOES NOT RELEASE OR LOCK PROPERLY A1 CHECK ELECTRON IGN FUSE
  • Check Fuse 5 (5A) located in fuse junction panel.
Is fuse OK?
Yes No GO to A3 . GO to A2 . A2 CHECK FOR SHORT TO GROUND
  • Turn ignition switch OFF.
  • Remove Fuse 5 (5A).
  • Disconnect shift-lock actuator connector C203 located to the right of steering column.
  • Measure resistance of the Circuit 1003 (GY/Y) between the correct terminal of Fuse 5 (5A) and ground.
Is resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes No REPLACE Fuse 5 (5A). GO to A3 . SERVICE Circuit 1003 (GY/Y) wire between fuse junction panel and shift-lock actuator. A3 CHECK POWER SUPPLY FROM FUSE 5 (5A)
  • Reinstall Fuse 5 (5A).
  • Turn ignition switch to RUN.
  • Measure voltage on Circuit 1003 (GY/Y) wire and ground.
Is voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes No GO to A4 . SERVICE Circuit 1003 (GY/Y) wire between interior fuse panel and shift-lock actuator. A4 CHECK POWER SUPPLY FROM FUSE 28 (15A)
  • Turn ignition switch OFF.
  • Disconnect connector C2016.
  • Turn ignition switch ON.
  • Measure voltage on Circuit 10 (LG/R) and ground.
Is voltage B+?
Yes No GO to A5 . SERVICE Circuit 10 (LG/R) for open. RESTORE vehicle and RETEST system. A5 CHECK WIRE BETWEEN STOPLIGHT SWITCH AND SHIFT-LOCK ACTUATOR
  • Turn ignition switch OFF.
  • Disconnect shift-lock actuator connector C203.
  • Apply brake pedal.
  • Measure voltage on Circuit 810 (R/LG) wire and ground.
Is voltage greater than 10 volts with brake pedal applied and less than 1 volt with brake pedal released?
Yes No GO to A6 . SERVICE Circuit 810 (R/LG) wire between stoplight switch and shift-lock actuator. A6 CHECK SHIFT-LOCK ACTUATOR GROUND
  • Measure resistance of Circuit 57 (BK) and ground.
Is resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes No REPLACE shift-lock actuator. SERVICE BK wire.

My furnace will not come on sometimes, if I power it off with pwr switch or access door interlock it will ignite and run fine for hours or days, then I notice it's cold and furnace not running, cycle

I have found this to be defective door interlock action. The switch is held closed by pressure from the sheet metal door - poor design. The purpose of the interlock is to shut down the furnace for service, a safety feature. If you bypass the switch, you defeat its safety purpose. Sometimes practicality overrides the need for safety.

I can't get my car out of park

Will the vehicle start and run? Where applicable, if you have a shift interlock system, look for a bypass button, usually close to shifter. With foot on the brake, press button and try to shift. That won't fix your problem, but, might get you out of a bind.

At the moment, the shift interlock system is all I can think of? Sometimes if your ignition switch isn't in the right position, you can't shift it.

Bypass interlocking switch

It's a safety device, so it's probably not a good idea. You can remove the switch and connect the two wires.

Clutch interlock switch

I'm just showing two wires on the clutch switch and you would connect the two to bypass the switch.
One is pink and the other is pink and white or red and lt blue.

I can't start the car in remote need to bypass clutch interlock switch how do I do that with out removeing plug. Remote is compatible for both automatic and manual transmission.Don not know what t

I do not recommend remote start systems for manual transmissions. You would have to bypass the clutch interlock to enable the starting circuit. If you left the vehicle in gear and used the remote you could do damage to the vehicle or other property (hopefully the parking brake holds the car in place). I have never seen a factory remote system on a manual transmission, to much liability....

What could be wrong with my starter?

Follow the Positive battery cable to its first union with a part. This should be the starter solenoid. You can bypass the solenoid with 1 jumper cable to see if the starter will spin. It will spark when you put power across the switch.

If the starter is spinning you have another problem to look at. There will be a small wire on top of the starter solenoid that you bypassed. If you use a voltmeter on this small wire, when disconnected, it will show voltage when the ignition key is held to the start position.

If it shows power, then the Interlock under the dash is okay. If you do not get power to this small wire, the brake interlock is bad. Under the dash is a brake pedal lever. It locks out the controls for the starter if the brake pedal is not pressed when you try to start the vehicle.

When this interlock switch is broken or moved by drivers' feet, the starter will not get power. You must fix the brake pedal interlock switch if you have no power in the small starter relay wire.

My 2003 aviator gear is locked in park and will not move

check to see if your brake lights work. No? check your brake light fuse. OK? change your brake light switch. Your brake light switch powers the brake / shifter interlock. There is usually a way to bypass the interlock- check your owners manual for bypass button location ( its usually next to the shifter)

I just changed the bulb but the unit will not power on. I can hear clicking as if it is attempting to power on.

The problem with the bulb cover interlock(safety switch) tab is that it is molded with the plastic cover. When these projectors are ceiling mounted upside down, the heat from the bulb melts the interlock tab and causes it not to actuate the interlock switch.

If you push the switch arm in you can hear the switch click. The fix I did on my projector was to bend the switch arm so that it stays actuated. You can use a small set of needle nose pliers or two small screwdrivers. be careful to only bend the arm in the middle, if you break the arm from the switch, you will have to go in and bypass the switch.... Just be carefull...

After you bend the switch arm try to press it in, if you did it right you won't hear the click. install the lamp, cover, and your done.
