Is this a laptop or a desktop? If it's a laptop, disable the track pad with the function keys and see if it still runs away.

SOURCE: When i use my touch pad on my brand new Gateway

There are some things you should do on your own:

1) Gather information. You need to know your Gateway model and S/N, Windows version (XP, Vista, 7, 32bit or 64bit)
To check windows version: Right-click My Computer or Computer from Start menu, choose properties. You should be able to see the Windows version here

2) Go to Gateway website:
Click on the "Notebooks" tab and input your S/N.

3) Scroll down to "Touchpad Drivers" section and download the latest driver for your model. Be sure to save the file where you can find it.

4) Install the new driver. It may be helpful to uninstall the old driver first: Start>>Right-click (My)Computer >> Manage >> In left pane, Device Manager >> In Right Pane, click plus sign next to, Mice and Other pointing devices >> Right -click the touchpad and click Uninstall, be sure to check the box, "Remove Software".

See if this gets better. If not, the touchpad/Palm rest needs to be replaced, but getting Gateway to do it (sounds like they tried) may be tough.

At least if you install the new driver, you may be able to disable it permanently, and then use a wireless mouse (which usually is much nicer anyway).

Happy computing!

SOURCE: I have a brand new

Download the latest drivers for the touchpad from Sony's site and install them.
If this is brand new however, I would be VERY inclined to return it for a refund or repair / testing. A brand new laptop should not do this and moreover, you should not at this stage of its life be expected to make alterations and adjustments.

Microsoft wireless mouse model 1007 , will not work

  • Put in the batteries Find the battery covers and slides it off. Insert the appropriate batteries. The wireless receiver that plugs into the computer runs off the computer's power and needs no batteries.
  • Plug in the receiver to the computer. Usually the receiver will plug into the USB port, but some plug into the mouse port. If all of your USB ports are filled, see if the mouse came with a USB adapter. The adapter fits into the mouse port. Be careful not to accidentally force the mouse adapter into the keyboard port.
  • Connect the mouse once you have it plugged in. The receiver should have a visible button that is easily push able by the average human finger. The mouse will usually have a very small hole with a button inside it that can only be pushed by something like a pencil or paper clip. Push both buttons at the same time with the receiver and the mouse relatively close to each other for about 5 seconds or more.
  • Position the receiver in a place that isn't far away from the mouse. Depending on where you are, you can place it on the monitor, on the tower, on the back of your laptop (if you are installing the mouse to your laptop) or on the desk. The furthest a wireless mouse can get away from the receiver without working very well is about 9 feet (2.7 meters), so keep that in mind.
  • Test your new mouse.

If you plugged into the mouse port, restart your computer manually.

If you plugged it into the USB port you may begin using it.

When the cursor moves when you move the mouse, you have connected the mouse properly. If the cursor doesn't move, try repositioning the receiver. If it still doesn't work, you may need to restart your computer (if you haven

Blue led of touch pad not working ( hp pavilion dv6000)

The blue LED on the touch Pad is an indicator light for the mouse and touch Pad lock and un-lock.
If you have mouse control, you do not have a sending problem from the sold state touch pad.
If you can enable and disable the mouse with the switch on center of pad, it may just be a led gone out.
I would check all led’s on unit to see if you may have other problems.
example: Cap lock, number lock, DVD and Touch display on top of keyboard and wireless Lan.
If you are running any external devices, disconnect them and reboot unit, afterwards check device manager for flags.
This led is a simple 2-pole unit but not worth the time and trouble to replace.
If your unit has other issues, check with HP and see if you can have them warranty the repairs. Keep in mind, HP has a extended 1 year warranty on issues such as Wlan, Hinges and Power startup problems.
Good luck, email their tech support with the issues ASAP, as they will log your issues and later review them for repair.
I had a 6000 which was 6 months out of warranty and had contacted HP for information on a wireless issue and they reviewed my past complaints and decided to have unit repaired, at no charge.
Good luck

Touch pad not working

Yes, Allyce, it is all in the wind.

Actually, you are probably tapping the mouse pad with your thumb while you are typing, and do not even notice it. It use to happen to me all the time until I purchased an HP that has a button above the mouse pad to shut it off.

Just start typing with your thumbs held high, and you will be ok.
