Question about Fujitsu Siemens Computers & Internet
When trying to burn photos to disc, i get the following message- " You don't have a disc drive capable of burning files to CD or DVD " The drive is able to play back photos.
You can try the below link that will automatically diagnose and repair problems with your CD or DVD drive when trying to read or burn media.
It could also be possible that the CD/DVD drive itself could have gone bad. Remove and reinstall drivers:
1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Click System and Security, click System, and then click Device Manager.
Note If Control Panel is in Classic View, double-click System, and then click Device Manager.
3. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.
4. In Device Manager, expand DVD/CD-ROM drives, right-click the CD and DVD devices, and then click Uninstall.
5. When you are prompted to confirm that you want to remove the device, click OK.
6. Restart the computer.

SOURCE: cd/dvd drive problem
Try with another brand of disk; the Matsushita UJ870 drive of our 5315 burn my Sony CD's but not my Philips CD's (my Compaq V2617LA with an older Matsushita UJ840 drive has burned Phillips CD's in the last two monts)... Remember: CD and DVD lassers are different. I think because of that, i haven't see problems with Sony, Philips and Samsung DVD's... only with CD's...

was it preinstalled or you installed it yourself ? either way sorry to tell you but drives do give out, and some times the cd-rom and dvd - rom drives the hardest to fix, but you can research http://www.geeks.com/ and find yourself a new one for around 40-50 dollars...
another thing, if you installed this drive yourself, you can pull it out and check the jumper and make sure its either cable select or slave or master, which ever you want to set it up as....
i usally put all my drives in cable select so the computer will select which drives goes first and things are juts alot easier that way....

Tips for a great answer:
Before you can copy files to a CD or DVD, the disc must first be prepared using a process called formatting. There are several ways to format a CD or DVD disc. Your choice of format determines which computers and other devices will be able to read the disc.
Insert a disc into your computer's CD or DVD drive.
In the dialog box that appears, click Burn files to disc.
In the Burn a disc dialog box, type a name for your new disc.
Click Show formatting options, and then click one of the following formatting options:
Live File System
Click Next to prepare the disc.
Now you can copy files to your disc using whichever method you selected.

Decide how you want to use the disc:

Type a name for your disc and click Next.
Click the Burn or Burn to Disc button again, if necessary.
