How hot? Too hot to touch, or just warm? Are you allowing adequate airflow under it? If you set it on a pillow or a blanket, you will restrict airflow, and it will heat up. If it's getting adequate airflow and it's getting hot enough that you think it could burn you, contact Dell for service. Use the term "too hot to touch" and you will most likely recieve a call tag for service. Be prepared to wait several weeks to get your laptop back though. They are SLOOOOOOW with service.

Not too hot to touch - just makes computer run slow. Sounds like fan is running. Power supply doesn't feel warm or hot but since battery is bad I'm going to also try leaving battery off. Perhaps computer is overworking trying to charge the battery. Because of the age of computer I'm having trouble finding a replacement battery that is worth the $.

Fan stays on and gets very hot

Unless the laptop is overheating and turning off, don't worry about it. Some laptops seem very hot on the bottom and so do some power cord adapters.

You can always by a cooling fan pad that sits under the laptop and plugs into the usb ports to help keep it cool for under $25.

Describe your HP HP Pavilion dv5-1150us Notebook Laptop PC It gets hot, especially the built in mouse. Should I vacum the vents/

Laptops do tend to get quite hot but cleaning it at least once a year should help. You could vacuum the vents but it usually works better with compressed air. You can also buy small docks for laptops that have extra fans on the bottom to help cool.

My toshiba satellite a75 s1253 is heating up frequently...

Here are a couple things to look for or do.

Get a can of compressed air and blast it into the vents on the bottom and sides of the notebook. This will hopefully blow out some dust and let the notebook "breathe" better.

When you power on the notebook look in the vents to verify the fans are spinning. If they are not then the notebook would heat up very quickly and would probably eventually overheat and turn off.

Some notebooks get very hot, which is not necessarily out of the ordinary. This excess heat is why notebooks are called notebooks and not laptops (because people were getting burnt by the notebook being on their lap).

Overheating for sony vaio vgn-bx546b

Make sure that the laptop is on a hard surface. If it is on a bed or on your lap, it will get hot because the fans are being blocked up and the hot air can not escape. I hope I helped.

you can find little rubber pad things like that at a local hardware store. they usually have stick on the bottom so you can stick right on. or get a notebook fan pad, something like this. staples or office depot maybe target or wal mart too.

Toshiba Satellite L15-S104 Gets VERY HOT

Make sure that there is good air flow all around the laptop, including the bottom. By resting it in your lap, you may be constricting the air flow. This is one of the reasons why laptops are now called notebooks! They really don't work well on your lap. When I use my notebook, I make sure that the fans have a clear path so that I don't have this problem. Try that and see if it works. You could also use a notebook cooler. They run about 20.00, depending on the type and size.

Dell Latitude D600 hot

this is perfectly normal. Ram is constantly written to and erased thousands of times a minute. This causes it to heat up. On older laptops like the d600, they don't have a great method of cooling it down so it does get hot. Mine gets hot enough to burn me if i hold it wrong. Just make sure when you are using it, that the bottom gets away from the surface its on once in a while, and you should be fine.
