What can i do to get to the recovery screen on my gateway desktop, its model is SX2110G-UW24?

I pulled this from the Gateway manual for your machine. It is a generic guide. If this doesn't work, you may not have a recovery partition on your hard drive and should have made recovery disks when originally getting the unit. Good Luck!

From the Gateway Manual......

Recovering from the hard drive during startup:
To reinstall Windows and all pre-installed software and drivers:
1. Turn on your computer, then press Alt+F10 during startup. Gateway
Recovery Management opens.
2. Click on Restore system from factory default.
Caution: Continuing the process will erase all files on your hard
drive.
3. Click on Next. Your hard drive's original, factory-loaded contents are
recovered. This process will take several minutes.

How To Tip #1: Disabling your Startup Items

Is your computer reacting slowly when it starts up and shuts down? The cause of this is likely due to the fact that many people have an enormous amount of programs that launch when Windows starts up. Hence when you boot into the Operating System, Windows wants to load each program while you just want to do something else.

The same goes when trying to shut down your computer. Windows needs to close all open programs and services in order to shut down. The less you have running, the quicker it is to start up and shut down. Additionally, you may also notice a sharp increase in your computer's performance since it won't be using as much of the computer's resources with all those background processes running.

If you have a ton of programs that are loading during startup, it's very easy to disable these. This won't uninstall that program, it just won't start at the same time as Windows. It will still be on your hard drive and ready to work when you want to open it.

To stop these programs from starting up with Windows, simply click on Start, type in MSCONFIG, then hit Enter. Remove the check mark next to Load Startup Items and then reboot. That's all there is to it.

I need to remove a disk from a Sony NEC Optiarc AD-7640S

CD Stuck in Device
First try the normal methods to remove the disc. Drag its icon to the Trash can in the Dock or select 'Eject' from the File menu. If you are running a virtual machine, e.g. VMFusion, ensure that the CD is disconnected from the virtual machine. This will sometimes allow the CD to now show up in Mac OS X. Shut down the computer and start up whilst holding down the mouse button. This may take some time, but keep your finger on the mouse button right up until the disc comes out or the log-in screen has appeared. If you have Toast Titanium installed on your computer, choose EJECT DISC from the menubar. Sometimes you can successfully use the eject disc button in iTunes even if the disc is not visible to the Finder Open Disk Utility and choose the disc you wish to eject in the left-hand pane, then click on the Eject button. Some Macintoshes have a paperclip hole that you can insert a straightened paperclip into, manually triggering the eject mechanism. Open Terminal and type "drutil tray eject" to eject the disc/tray, and "drutil tray close" to close the tray. Restart the computer while holding down Command-Option-O-F, to enter the Open Firmware prompt. Type "eject cd" without the quotes, and press return. The disk ought to eject. To start into OS X, type "mac-boot" without the quotes. Press return, and the computer will continue with the startup. (This will not work on an Intel Mac. There is no Open Firmware on Intel Macs. ) If your computer has an eject button on the keyboard, restart the computer holding down the Option key. When the startup disk selection screen appears, let go of the option key and press the keyboard's eject button.

Computer running slow stuff keeps popping up

Your pc is infected. Go to -  http://www.avast.com/  - (antivirus) and -  http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html  - (antispyware) and Download (as in Save, not Run) the installers. Disconnect your pc from the internet (unplug the lan cable, shutdown the wireless or unplug the modem), close all your present (and clearly useless) security software and uninstall them,  launch the installers that you downloaded (Avast first - during install you will be offered the option to perform a boot scan - take it) and follow the instructions. Once the installs are over connect your pc to the internet and reboot once more. You will have to manually update Spybot (the link is on its main windows) before launching a full scan..

Your machine has a hardware problem. Open the case and blow all the dust from it. Reseat all components you can. If that does not help, remove memory and try using one memory stick at a time. Change the memory slot. If it still will not boot you either have a video card, motherboard, or power supply problem.

It sounds like you may have accidently put something in the startup menu. Click on the start menu in the bottom left hand corner. Then click on all program. Then click on the startup folder. If this program is in there, then delete it. If not – you may have a Trojan that is causing this. Google Trojan scanners and download a free one and run it.

Disk drive problems!

sure...and it's not that hard to do.

first, turn off your laptop

then turn it on it's back, so bottom is visible

look for a screw in line from cd player..usually about 1/3 of way in

remove that, and the cd should slide right out.

sometimes, that screw is closer to the edge.

get a replacement online, after determining the maker of the cd.
