Re: my acer crystal webcam is not working properly
Hi there I've just had the same prob with my Acer Aspire 5535. It seems there are compatibility problems with the webcam and the most recent version of MSN. I've now downgraded to v8.1 and it works perfectly fine. I'm probably gonna have a go at using a slightly newer version and see how far I can get before I goes wrong again as v8.1 isn't the most attractive of versions :-)

Video chat is the service provided by different messenger softwares. It is not a feature of a laptop. For video chat you need a web cam and a messenger. All most every messenger in the market like Yahoo, MSN , Nimbuz , Skype offers video chat. Install any of the messenger,
make an ID, invite the other person to make ID on that messenger.
When you both are connected to that messenger then start the video call.
If your laptop does not have a built-in webcam you can also purchase it separately. It is not very expensive.
Simply download a program that supports video chat. A popular program is skype. Once you install the software, it will find your web cam for you and do all of the hardwork.

Here are the steps to use web cam on MSM:-
Log in to your account at the MSN Web site.
Locate the "Webcam" icon underneath your display picture.
Click the "Webcam" icon.
Select "Send My Webcam" to the person that you want to send your video to.
Wait for your chat partner to accept your Webcam invitation. Once he or she accepts it, your live video feed will begin.
Finish sending the video feed by clicking the "Webcam" icon once again.
Open the MSN Messenger program on your computer.
Show or Hide Your Webcam
Open MSN Messenger on your computer.
Click the "Tools" menu and then select "Options" from the drop-down list.
Locate the "Personal" link and click it with your mouse.
Find the "My Webcam" area and either select or de-select next to where it says "Allow Others to See That I Have a Webcam." This is handy for letting those in your chat list know whether you can have a video chat with them--whether or not they have Webcams.

YOU CAN USE THE WEB CAM IN ALL LIVE CHATTING APPLICATION.
First install the web cam drivers from the driver cd and then use it with chatting messenger (yahoo, msn etc.). you can use it as video recoder or picture capture devise.
Use a software that came with it: You must have got a pre-installed software with the laptop when you removed it from the box. It must be YouCam or something. You can even use Windows Movie Maker (to even capture videos).
Use a chat software: A chat software like Yahoo! Messenger, Skype, ICQ, Live Messenger or Google Talk will use the webcam for a video chat with someone.
