Question about Sewing Machines

Sewing machine running slow

Replaced foot pedal and oiled all points - still runs slow no matter how much you push down on the pedal. On the other hand it still sews perfectly.

Check the plug in to the outlet first
then check the power cord connection to the sewing machine
could be something wrong with the power cord
could also be something wrong with the motor
also could be a wiring problem

SOURCE: start/stop button problem will the machine run on its own

You have to unplug the power cord to the the foot pedal. The manual doesn't include this. And good stinkin luck with Sears or Kenmore customer service! Just pull the cord out of the machine and the start/stop button will work. Try it on a slower setting at first though. Also, if you need additional presser feet, Singer, Brother, Janome, and possibly other brands will usually work as long as they are the snap on type. I really do like my machine, good luck with yours!

SOURCE: Machine slows down, stops, starts again. Foot control problem?

Yes it does sound like a faulty foot control. The power cord is probably fine, you just need the controller. Ebay is a good source for parts.

When I push down on the foot pedal it will slow down and speed up without me changing the pressure I'm putting on the pedal.

Hello Marcia
Your foot pedal is either faulty of the rheostat in it needs cleaning. If you are comfortable taking it apart, you will find a contact that slides on a wire coil. Clean it with 3 in 1 oil and then put it back together.

Or you can replace it
Direct from a Singer warranty centre
http://www.singerco.com/support/us-warranty-centers

Or from a Sewing machines spares outlet.

My Singer Sewing Machine runs too fast. Is there a way to slow it down?

what type of machine do you have. I have two that I operate with buttons and it has a little slide button to speed or slow down I don't know why it should run to fast with a foot pedal because you control the speed with your foot you may want to check to see if there is any trash that has gotten in the foot and somehow not allowing the foot to come back up

The foot pedal gets hot after a few minutes

It sounds as though the foot pedal is the problem. Maybe a shorted out wire in the actuator (rheostat). When your foot is off the pedal there should be no power running through it. If it has a short then it "thinks" the pedal is partially depressed to the slow position so runs at that speed. If the pedal can be removed/unplugged from the machine, do this and see if the machine stops running.

When stepping on pedal, my juki 5550 straight sewing machine, why will the machine not run? Light works but not machine

there could be something wrong with the foot pedal, it may need to be serviced or replaced, or there could be something wrong with the plug where the foot pedal plugs into

Is it the motor or the foot pedal that might cause my trouble? Sewing machine runs inconsistent in speed.

HAVE YOU TRIED TAKING THE FOOT PEDAL TO A SEWING MACHINE REPAIR SHOP AND ASK IF THEY COULD TELL YOU IF THE RESISTANCE IS CONSTANT AT DIFFERENT LEVELS OR IF IT FLUCTUATES IN SPEEDS ON ANOTHER MACHINE. MY GUESS IS THAT THE MACHINE NEEDS AN OVER HAUL, THEY DO NEED OILING, ADJUSTING AND CLEANING IN PLACES YOU HAVENT EVEN SEEN YET. I KNOW,.... MY WIFE HAS THREE OF THEM AND THEY RUN BEST IF THEY ARE SERVICED ONCE A YEAR WITH MODERATE USE.

Bernina 1030 starts by itself and runs very slowly some time after parking the needle at the top

This is most likely a fault in the foot control. Normally supplied with this machine is a Type 10 and this can be fixed quite easily but probably not by the machine's owner unless you have some electrical and mechanical experience.

If you have knowledge of and access to a multimeter, you can test it. What working properly, you will find the following:
Pedal released: resistance is infinite (anything around 4k Ohms or less and the machine will run).
Heel pressed: resistance is about 10k Ohms.
Toe steadily pressed from nothing to all the way down: resistance is infinite then after a small depression, jumps to about 4k Ohms steadily decreasing to zero as the pedal reaches all the way down.

Your problem, being at the point where the pedal isn't pressed suggests that there's some contamination in the pedal. It's also possible that you have a type 365 pedal (as used on the 930) and this is more likely to give this kind of trouble due to the use of carbon brushes in this foot pedal.

What's your problem?Have a TOYOTA EZT9000 and it seems to have slowed quite a bit. Does it need oil? If so, where do I put it in?

there are other things that can cause the machine to slow down
like the motor, foot pedal, have you checked these things first
1. is the power cord plugged into the outlet securely
2. is the power cord plugged into the machine correctly
3. is the foot pedal plugged into the machine correctly
4. is the cord to the foot pedal caught in the foot pedal
if none of these are the problem, then the machine needs to be serviced
to see why it's running slow

Why is the motor of my sears kenmore sewing machine model 385.12714 running really slow? The machine has not been used for at least a year or two. We oiled it. It is sewing, but at a snail's pace.

it could be different things
have you checked to make sure the plug is correctly in the machine
one time I was sewing on my necchi electronic machine & it for some reason was going slow like you mentioned & so I started checking different thing & found the cord to the foot pedal was laying in side the foot pedal & it couldn't go any faster untill I moved the cord out of the way
it could also be the motor
& also the power cord & foot pedal
it's possible it needs to be serviced since it's been sitting up so long & since it's sewing at a snails pace
