Hi, have you checked this link below ?

http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/NETWORK-CARD/OTHER-NETWORK-CARDS/Gateway-Broadcom-Network-Driver-3100641.shtml

  1. Right click My computer to properties
  2. Select and click on Manage
  3. click on Device Manager
  4. on the right side you will find all your system and installed devices, look for ethernet Network Adapter and right click to update driver
Or go ahead and download the driver, install it and after its complete reboot your PC. If it prompts you browse to the drivers location.

You need the Intel Pro 100 driver for XP. Go to the following web link at Intel: http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/highlights/network/pro100ve and download the driver. Copy it to a flash drive. Put the flash drive into your PC that needs the LAN driver and double-click it to install it.

You have wiped all drivers by formatting and need to go to friends PC / download latest drivers for the exact model laptop from the vendors site and install them.

NB = install mobo driver FIRST.

Best thing about drivers on the net is that they are later than the ones with the laptop from new.

Realtek 8201BL chipset is the network drivers you will need. You should be able to find this online. When you do download the drivers, be sure to download the 64 bit drivers for your systems or you will run into further problems.

Connecting modem via ethernet cable

I'm not an expert in window based units but since it worked with Vista OS and not with XP. Sounds like you might try re-installing XP again. Take note on any windows that refer to the ethernet port during installation. It is likely you might of hit "next" without reading all the text. I know I have in the past. I changed over to mac and I know longer have any problems only at work but give then I give it to the IT Dept and wait and wait and wait.

Xp format problem

Assuming that you have both XP's on the drive, when it boots up, have you selected and tested both? OR

Did you format the entire drive and wipe the old system off, replacing it with the new install?

The simplest why to fix is to boot up on the Pro CD and format the entire drive and install new system. It sounds like your old info may still be there, but you can't get to it. Try the different boot option and burn your desired data to keep to a cd, then do the simplest. Don't worry about the system drivers, you can recover them from the restore cd or download them from the Dell.
The Pro XP will be able to recover your system enough to get the drivers on line.

No big deal, just time consuming.

Good Luck
