Question about Sta Rite STA-RITE IMPELLER 2HP FULLRATE & 2-1/2HP UPRATE, C105-238PEB

1 Answer

Have a GL sunlighter with 2 hp sta rite 220 vtl 2 speed motor, when in periodic filtering mode about every 4th or 5th cycle the motor fails to start and just humms until overheat trips, if I hit high mode while the motor is humming the motor starts up and runs properly, If I leave the filtering set at constant filter the motor runs ok. Do you think this is a capacitor or a bad armatur problem ? thanks for reply

SOURCE: I have a sta rite pool filtere and it is running

Pump motors used in most pool aplications can not be reversed. Changing the wires on the capacitor or reversing the line connections will not change the motor rotation. A failed capacitor can, from time to time, let a motor start "backwards" but it will not happen often if even at all. You might need to take the motor to a local electric2_bing.gif motor repair shop for an inspection.

SOURCE: pump was running until turn

either debris in pump causing impeller to hang, or you need a start capacitor.

3 hp hot tub motor Sta-Rite tub has two speed low for filtering and high for jets low starts and then stops high speed works fine

make sure you make a wiring diagram or just unplug the plug from the mother board and search your area for your local pool pump repair guy with free testing. these are a high $$$ motor and not a good one to practice on, save it for a pro ! it might just be a dirty switch or need to be reset I don't charge any thing for that, and while your there ask him how to take better care of your $$$ pump ?

I turn my pump on, it starts pumping then about 10-15 sec it shuts off. Doesn't seem as loud or pulling pressure either.

Check the label and then the wiring on the motor to see if you are wired 120 or 240 first. If you are supposed to get 240 and are getting 120, the motor will run @ 1/2 speed for a little while and then shut off. If this continues, your motor will short out. If your motor is getting 240 volts while running, you have a bad motor.

We have a Sta-rite mode P2RA50-120L, when trying to empty the pool of excess water the pump runs for appox. 30sec and then cuts out...the pool was very over full we bailed some ot the water out but it is...

If all you are doing is running your filter system to waste or backwash the fact that the pool is over full has nothing to do with it. It should run fine in either case. Your motor is likely starting to fail and as it overheats, shuts off. You may want to consider taking it to a local electric motor shop for repair or replace the motor. That motor is somewhere around $150 from most places. We sell it as well. If you would like a quote, please contact www.arrowmotor.net
