HELP!! Connection Issues

I'll try to keep it brief; New laptop (2 weeks), Acer Aspire 3690. I'm having intermittant connection issues. Sometimes can't stay connected for more than 10 seconds..sometimes i can stay connected for hours and hours. My husband has a laptop (gateway) has never had a problem with connection. Can go anywhere in the house. I haven't found anything consistant causing interference. Have uninstalled/reinstalled the network card. Disabled firewalls, disabled Acer E-net. Re-configured the D-link router. Checked absolutely every setting on my laptop i can think of. Unplugged the microwave, cordless phones, etc. Changed the channel on the router to auto-select. I've been told that possibly it may be a faulty antenna that is built in? Help because I don't want to send it away unless i have to. I can't understand what the problem is and all the techs in tech support know less than me. The windows connection icon will tell me I'm connected but i can't get on the internet, then the icon will change to tell me i have lminited access, etc. It's not a conflict with other networks in range, i've ruled that out. I'm desperate! There's more i've done but too many things to list. Thank you kindly for your help :) I'm ready to huk this thing...

Re: HELP!! Connection Issues

I think Tech Support is hiring if you want a job. If your using DHCP you can try to assign an IP address. Assign a channel on the router not auto-select. But it does sound like just a weak connection. Not hardware related. I'm sure your laptop is just fine. Without spending alot of money, try another brand router. If it works, great. If you get the same results (bad connection), take the router back and get your money back. If all else fails, take your laptop to a place that has a wireless internet connection (Circuit City, BestBuy, StarBucks, Etc..) and see if it works there. You may need to change the location of the router.

I keep losing the connection to my Linksys N router...why??

1.Primarily, if you use a N standard wireless router, you must go in for the same N standard adapter, to get full efficiency. You didn't mention the model no.
2.If you have any other wireless computer in your house, check with that if it also has the same issues. Try checking with new and old wireless devices.
3.If finally, you conclude that its only this Belkin adapter that is responsible for intermittent connection, then:
3a. Uninstall the Belkin adapter's utility and drivers from control panel(Add/Remove programs)
3b.Go to and download the latest drivers for your model.
3c. Unplug the adapter and run the downloaded setup file. (Setup will walk you through from here)

But i could have helped you better if you had mentioned the model or part number along with the version of it.
Anyway, this would certainly work.

Wireless connection is intermittent

You may have interference with other devices in the same range as your router.
If you have Vonage then you may have issues with some routers also. If you do have Vonage, then try to make sure your router is not on the same leg of your networ as your vonage modem.
