Question about KitchenAid Superba Architect KSCS25INSS Side by Side Refrigerator

Refrigerator is not getting cold

We went away for the weekend and when we came back the fridge was leaking and at room temperature. We turned it off and on again by unplugging it. Tried adjusting the temp range buttons but nothing. It sounds like the motor is running but both the freezer and the fridge have defrosted. We recently had a new filter put in but as far as we know the repairman did nothing else.

went away for the weekend, came home and my Kitchenaid Superba side by side is no longer cooling.. in fact it is hot inside. what went wrong? please help can't afford a repair person. have to diy.

Do you say the fridge has defrosted because you can not see ice buildup? Because ice builds up on frost free refrigerators where you can not see it until it is so built up that the freezer no longer cools adequately.

Please reply your findings for additional help.

Pull you refrig away from the wall and look behind the cardboard cover you will see the compressor (big black bowling ball looking thing). we need to determine if it is running you should here a low consistent hum. if the compressor is not running you will probably hear a humming and clicking noise about every 3-5 mins indicating the compressor is trying to start but shutting back down. the culprit is usually the start relay loated on the side of the compressor. this is a plug and play part and very easy to repace yourself get pt#8201786 from whirlpool the good instructions for replacing the part. good luck peyton

There is a good chance that your refrigerator has frozen up from the door being left open.

The best and easiest thing to do is to unplug the refrigerator and prop the doors open for 24 hours to melt any ice build-up that may have occurred and then restart the refrigerator.

If the refrigerator still fails to pull down to proper temp, then you will need to dig deeper to find the problem.

GE Top-Mount Refrigerator GTH22SHS, freon escape?

Even though technicians may wear a patch which says GE , is does not mean they are electronic refrigerator capable . Most probably know very little refrigerator repair .
From your description , it sounds like the 2 freezer thermistors could be bad . 1 is located on the freezer side panel inside a small oval housing . This thermistor tells the main control board , the actual freezer temp and when to cycle on / off . The second thermistor is located on the top of the coils , behind the inside rear freezer wall . This thermistor is " clipped " to the coils . Both are 1 " long , torpedo looking pieces , which you can easily replace ( only 2 wires to each ) . The thermistor on the coils , tell the main board the coil temperature and when to defrost .
The part number for both is WR55X10025 and cost about $10.00 each .

Freezer and Refrigerator wont get cold

Good day,
Looks as if you covered most bases.
You didn't say if the fan motor in the freezer compartment is running. Open the freezer door. You should be able to see and hear it. if not, remove the rear panel in the freezer and inspect and replace if needed. If no luck here......
Based on everything you said, it sounds as if you have a serious problem with the sealed system which includes the compressor.

You do not recharge a refrigerator. You fix the leaks, and then recharge. But it could be a restriction in the internal system, or possibly bad valves in the compressor.

In either case, you'll need a qualified tech to sort it out.

Thank you for using FixYa.

I have a rm2611 refrigerator which has lights, no fan

There's a capacitor by or on the compressor that probalbly needs replacing. This is the cheapest route .

The freezer stops working when the room temp drops below 60

Refrigerator operation is controlled by the internal temperature . When there is very little ambient heat available to leak in to cause it to cycle more frequently and there is no door traffic to be a heat source the freezer temperature will increase. Keep the room heated to a higher temperature or remove frozen products is the answer. A small chest type freezer will keep food frozen while you are away and have the heat turned down.

Freezer works great, as it should, but fridge is only keeping items room temp. I have the setting at the coldest setting: #7. What is wrong?

Here's what I did, I defrosted! I found out that the fridge temp is monitored and maintained by the freezer. Because we had a power outage one night, my freezer thawed while we all slept and then when power came back on, freezer re-froze but this cause an ice build up on the vent on the back wall of the freezer. Well, ice must have been in one (or more) vents, causing blocked air flow in my top half of the refrigerator. I turned the dial in the freezer to "off" which also shuts down power to the fridge half. I then unplugged the refrigerator, hauled all my food items into coolers, opened the freezer door and refrigerator doors and left them open for a little over six hours. I took advantage of this empty fridge and freezer and wiped everything down. After this time frame passed, I plugged the fridge back in, turned the freezer dial to my preferred freezer temp, and wah-lah! Within two hours I had a cold fridge and solid ice cubes in the freezer. I then put all my food items back into their appropriate compartments, and went to work. Bear in mind, a total 24-hour period is needed for the fridge to re-set itself, but still, after two hours the fridge was noticeably cold. Who knew, besides our parents' generation: DEFROST!
