Getting That Embroidery Design To Your Janome Posted on August 21, 2010 by b.gottier
It never fails. When I sell a Janome embroidery machine, the customer always comes back and says they can't get their designs to their machine with their USB stick or CF card. Is something wrong with the USB stick or CF card? Is something wrong with the machine? No and no are always the answers to these questions. The real problem is that the customer is not placing the design files into the correct folder on the USB stick or CF card. I can't blame them for not knowing this, because the owner's manuals don't make it very clear. Unless the designs are placed into the right folder, the machine will not see that they are there, and you won't be able to use them.
Destination Folders For Designs Machine Destination Folder Media Type MB-4 EMBF folder in EMB folder USB stick & CF card MC11000 EMBF folder in EMB folder USB stick & CF card MC10001 9 folders ( EMBF5 thru EMBF16 ) CF card MC10000 EMB_FILE folder CF card MC9900 EMBF folder in EMB folder USB stick MC9700 EMBF5 folder CF card MC9500 EMBF5 folder CF card MC350E MyDesign folder in EMBF5 folder USB stick MC300E v1 EMBF5 folder CF Card MC300E v2 MyDesign folder in EMBF5 folder CF Card MC200E EMBF folder in EMB folder USB stick This tutorial is going to show you how to get your designs into the right folder on your USB stick or CF card. The designs will then be recognized by your embroidery machine, and you will spend more time embroidering and less time wondering what is wrong.

Preparing Your Storage Device

First, before doing anything else, stick your USB stick or CF card into your embroidery machine, then turn on the machine. By doing this, your machine will create a necessary folder system on the stick/card, into which you will place your designs. Normally you will see a message on the screen of your machine that tells you not to take the USB stick or CF card out for a little while. Once this message goes away, turn off the embroidery machine, and remove the card/stick.

Finding Your Storage Device On Your Computer

Now plug your USB stick into your computer, or insert your CF card into the CF card reader of your computer. We now want to open a new window and navigate through the computer to find the USB stick or CF card. I would normally access the stick/card through "My Computer", but you may also use Windows Explorer. If you are lost at this point, you may require a lesson or two in basic computer usage, but this is beyond the scope of this blog post.
When you have successfully navigated to the USB stick or CF card on your computer, you will notice the folders that your embroidery machine made. The destination folder for your designs is shown in fig.1. For example, if you have an MC11000 or MC11000SE, you will be looking for an folder named EMBF that is inside a folder named EMB.
Once you have the destination folder open, minimize that window by clicking the _ button in the upper right corner of the window. We will come back to it later.

Finding Your Designs On Your Computer

Open up another window, and this time navigate through your computer to find the designs you want to transfer. Sometimes the designs are on CDs, and sometimes the designs are downloaded from the internet. You will need to find your designs by navigating through your computer. I can't tell you where they are, because you were the one that put them there. I use Windows Explorer to browse through my computer, but you may also access your designs through "My Computer". Once you have found the location of your designs, typically files with a .jef file extension, proceed to the next step.

Copying Your Designs To Your Storage Device

Copy the design(s) you want to put on your stick/card by right clicking on them and clicking "copy".
To select more than one design to copy at a time, just hold down the CTRL key on your keyboard and click multiple designs. With all the designs highlighted, right click on any part of the highlighted area and click "copy". Next, maximize the window of your destination folder, right click inside it, and click "paste". You will now see the design(s) you wanted to transfer in the destination window.
You can now pull the USB stick/CF card out of your computer, and insert it into your embroidery machine for stitch out. Your machine will recognize that the designs exist, because you put it in the right folder!
If you have followed my instructions, you should be ready to embroider

My garmin 530hcx has locked up on the opening screen...is there a master reset sequence? I have removed the batteries and still won't work! Also, it won't shut off once turned on and locked...

f a device is locking up and has a long noise or beep when powering down, this is due to hidden data being transferred to the microSD data card. These hidden files and folders are being created by the computer and sent to the data card in addition to the maps, waypoints, routes, tracks and pictures that were selected. The following GPS units could experience this issue.
  • eTrex Legend Cx
  • eTrex Legend HCx
  • eTrex Venture Cx
  • eTrex Vista Cx
  • eTrex Vista HCx
  • GPSMAP 60Cx
  • GPSMAP 60CSx
  • GPSMAP 76Cx
  • GPSMAP 76CSx
  • Rino 520HCx
  • Rino 530HCx
To prevent this issue when the device is shutting down delete these extra unused or hidden files and folders from the data card. Examples of these folders are: .Trashes and .Spotlight-V100 folders. Since the Mac OS adds hidden files and folders to mounted removable drive volumes this process cannot be done on a Mac and will need to be done after every time the data card is mounted as a volume on a Mac.
To delete these folders the device will have to be placed into USB Mass Storage mode. To do this:
  1. Connect the device to the computer using the USB cable
  2. Go to the Main Menu
  3. Select Setup
  4. Select Interface
  5. Select USB Mass Storage Mode
The device is now in USB Mass Storage Mode. At this time a window should open on the computer desktop displaying Removable Disk at the top. The Garmin folder will be displayed. Open the Garmin folder.
Do NOT delete the the following files:
  • gmapsupp.img
  • gmapsupp.unl
  • gmapsupp.gma
These files contain supplemental mapping. If delete will cause the mapping to be erased or unviewable.
If there are other folders or files on the data card, delete these. Some of these files or folders may be hidden and therefore will need to be unhidden*. Once you have done so, please disconnect the device from the computer and power it up.
*Note: To Display a file folder that is hidden:
  1. Select the Tools option on the window that appears on the computer when the device is in USB Mass Storage Mode
  2. Select Folder Options
  3. Select View
  4. Open the Files and Folders folder
  5. Open the Hidden Files and Folders folder
  6. Select Show hidden files and folder
  7. Select Apply
  8. Select OK
Once all of the hidden files and folders have been removed from the microSD Card the unit will not

How to use a memory stick in my laptop Windows 7 particularly to insert the information from to stick into my compuer Windows 7

just insert the stick into the usb ..and wait for the windows to recognize it and install the device ..this will be a few seconds and it will prompt you with a balloon in the right area that will say the device is installed and ready to use..
after that it is either open an auto-play window and ask you for an action ..(you can select a preferred action and click the case to always perform that action ) and my choice will be the feature that says open the folder to view files..and if you select that case and choose this action ...every time you will insert the stick in usb port ..it will automatically open the folder to show you what it is inside..
if the autoplay is stopped..the way to find it ..is after you insert ..wait a few seconds..and look for it in My computer folder where all drives are shown ..C drive ; D drive; the cd /dvd drive and it will be there named removable storage device.
Just double click to open its folder and it will behave like any other folder ..you can copy..or cut ..or delete from it ..and also copy to it by choosing a file from computer ...right click on it ..copy ..than click on the device folder and right click infact and paste ..thats all..it behaves like moving files from a folder to another into the computer ..

The backup utility does not seem to work properly. I have a 40Gig drive and the backup function works as normal, but when I go to restore it says no backup data. I checked on my PC and there are five files...

In my case the problem was that the USB device did not re-mount after the PS3 restarted.

Try starting the backup restore process, removing the USB device sometime after the PS3 starts formatting, then re-attaching it once the PS3 finishes restarting. Wait for a while to allow the device to mount before you press the PS button.
