Egg smell when using the top loading Maytag

I had Maytag appliances that lasted 25 years, so naturally I purchased another pair about 5 years ago. About a year ago, my washer wouldn't completely drain after washing and once or twice I forgot about the clothes and left them overnight. I had the machine repaired but every time I use it, it smells like rotten eggs, especially on the spin cycle. The clothes smell fine. I've tried bleach, febreeze, you name it. It will be OK for a day or so, and then back to the smell. Totally disgusted with it.

The first thing to do is to CHECK IN AND AROUND THE RUBBER DOOR BOOT (called a bellow) for small articles of clothing (like socks and underwear) that may have gotten lodged in behind the rubber. Pull the rubber back where it meets the wash tub and look behind it. It is common for small items to get stuck here, become forgotten and start to mildew. You should check this area after each wash and clean it periodically to get rid of the formation of soap scum, mold, and mildew. HINT: When you get ready to wash a load of towels, take a dirty towel and clean the door boot thoroughly (including the areas behind the rubber). Immediately place the towel in the wash and run it on a sanitary cycle. This way you eliminate the need for cleaning rags.

PERIODICALLY RUN THE WASHER ON A CLEANING CYCLE. Place the washer on the hottest setting you have (usually a Sanitary cycle) with nothing but bleach in the wash tub. Some newer models actually have a “Clean Cycle” available now just for this purpose. This helps keep the wash tub, drain lines and pump sanitized.

CHECK AND CLEAN THE DRAIN PUMP FILTER. Accumulations of debris in the drain pump filter can also cause odors. HINT: If you own a shop vac, pull the drain hose from the standpipe at the wall and pull a vacuum on the line. This will drain any residual water left in the tub, pump and drain lines BEFORE you remove the drain pump cover. This will prevent a messy clean up later.

LEAVE THE DOOR OPEN IF POSSIBLE. When not in use, leave the door open to allow the tub to air out and to keep mold and mildew from forming on the door bellow. I know this may not be desirable in some households with small children. If too much mildew forms on the rubber and it cannot be removed, replacement of the bellow may be required.

NOTE: This problem is common with front loader style washing machines. The doors on these machines have an air tight/water tight seal that is great for sealing the washer during the wash cycle, but can be terrible for collecting small garments and for not allowing the tub to properly air out when not in use. Following these simple preventive measures can go a long way towards preventing harmful mold and mildew, and towards extending the life of the door bellow and pump.

Top load washer smells like rotten eggs when water is draining into tub

As someone who has had a deep well drilled and found water, but water contaminated with iron and sulfur, I can tell you first hand about the rotten egg smell. The water softener will remove the iron that can turn clothes orange, but doesn't do anything to remove the rotten egg odor. You will need a charcoal (carbon) water filter to eliminate the sulfur smell.

Gas smell when using and not using

follow this steps and fix it. God bless you

f the pilot light on your stove goes out, natural gas may build up in your stove. If your pilot light has gone out, open the kitchen windows and doors for 15 minutes to let the gas dissipate safely then relight the pilot light. Do not relight the pilot light immediately -- striking a match could cause an explosion.
Gas Leak

  • If you can smell the sulfur-like or rotten egg smell of gas, there may be a gas leak inside or outside your home. You might also hear a hissing sound coming from the stove or another appliance or from a pipeline. Outside gas leaks may kill or stunt nearby vegetation. Signs of carbon monoxide poisoning include nausea, dizziness, fatigue and other flu-like symptoms.

f you still smell gas after relighting the pilot light, don't hesitate. Leave your home, along with the rest of your family and pets, then call your utility company or 911 from a safe location. Leave the doors and windows open behind you, especially if the odor is strong or you can hear the hissing of a gas leak. Do not turn appliances or lights on or off or use a phone in your home. Do not strike a match or use a lighter, either. Prevention

We have a Maytag top-loader model A482 which is probably 25 years old. I found water on the floor under the machine when the last load finished washing. What's the first place to look for the leak? I'm...

The most common thing that will cause a leak is the tub seal. If the tub seal is leaking water will be comming from the center of the tub where the transmission meets the tub. This page will show how to replace the seal. http://appliance-repair-it.com/Maytag-tub-seal.html

There is also an air-gap that will often leak. If this is the case the water will be comming from the left hand side at the top. The air-gap is in line with the water inlet. This page will tell more http://www.appliance-repair-it.com/Maytag-washer-leaking.html

If they are not the problem you will have to look for a leaking hose or something to that nature.

Are microwave safe egg poachers doing damage to microwave?

you are not supposed to have any metal in the microwaves for cooking something , as why the other two quit , that is probably why they quit so soon
there is some more exspensive microwaves that can work even when metal is used inside( but these are special types of microwves)

Rotten Egg Smell

Repair man told me this is common with front load washers. I was told to put Sunlight dish washing detergent (for dishwashers not hands) in the machine (about 1/2 cup) and do a hot wash with the machine empty.
