Question about Philips Magnavox 9P6034C 60" Rear Projection Television

Projection oil spill on main circuit board

So the other day i tore my philips rear projection tv apart because the picture was terrible i noticed that the green and blue tubes were contaminated (the oil inside that is) so i pulled the lenses off all 3 tubes to get a close look and when i did the secondary cover for the fluid reservior on the blue tube popped off and a lot of coolant spilled out onto the main circuit board. the tv was off and unplugged and i tested the coolant for conductivity and it produced no conductivity but the tv no longer turns on. i havent touched anything other that the blue tube none of the wires or connections or any circuit boards...... am i screwed or can i just clean off the circuit board and turn it on or throw the thing away? ps: since the site wont let me choose my model the tv is a philips magnavox 7p4830 w101

The coolant in the CRT's is made up of 70% ethylene glycol and 30% glycerin. The coolant is highly conductive and somewhat corrosive. Since you already tried to turn it on im not sure but hopefully you wiped it up first. Take some 100% denatured alcohol and use that to clean the spill you can just pour it on and wipe it off with the set unplugged of course. then let the remainder on the board evaporate (It evaporates very quickly when open) and repeat the process. if your lucky and it did short the first time you turned it on the fuse just blew.

I have a Philips projection TV model # 60PP920217F. The TV comes on but there is no picture. I recently changed the coolant in it and spilled a little on the circuit board. ( It was unplugged at the time.)...

The crt fluid needs to be repalced carefully and correctly...This is why we created step byt step instructions for our kits on our website www.TvRepairKits.com . In msot cases if you cleaned up the spill before powering up the tv would be fine....but its not always easy to get all the spill off the board.....look around and see if you find any burnt parts....if so post a photo here....

Liquid coolant in big screen tv, what is it?

It is a very toxic material called Glycol==if touched it gets absorbed into your body by contact--there to keep the picture tubes cool.

Lens should never be taken apart---if it got on the circuit boards it will short things out and start dissolving leads and the actual board as well.

I have an RCA 52in Rear Projection TV. One day it

There is a sub-board in this set that powers the convergence circuit. Often a big Ic shorts, two diodes and finally the main fuse. not something you can fix yourself.

NO PICTURE ON MY TV BUT I DO HAVE SOUND.

Check all your cables, make sure CRT boards are tight. Make sure you put the black ground wires back on the tubes. Also make sure that no fluid has spilled on the circuit boards.

I have a 52" projection tv it is a phillips. one day i came home and i went to turn it on. now what do i do it wont turn on?

In the absence of any warnings of impending failure, the main power supply has probably failed.
This is likely to be a separate assembly (board) that you could replace on your own. If you remove the back lower panel, follow the AC cord to locate the supply, get the part number from the assembly (there may be two different numbers). The bare circuit board may have a number that was printed in the same manner as the component identifiers and then another number on a label which might contain a 'revision' number too. This board is probably not terribly tought to repair with the necessary instruments but you would be better off buying a new board and then looking for someone to repair the other since it will probably be needed when the replacement fails.

Screen goes black

If you are willing, remove the speaker grill and the rectangular board behind that and look very, very carefully underneath each of the three picture tubes for evidence of coolant drops on the printed circuit boards. These sets have been known to spill a few drops of coolant onto the boards and this causes intermittent problems such as yours. This is my first direction in your case. Let me know.
